Grenache has long been a stalwart of the South Australian wine scene and Penfolds have been blending Grenache with Shiraz since the 1950's. Recent years has seen a growing trend for the luscious perfumed styles like those emanating out of the northern Rhône and the Bin 138 produces a brilliant example. Going from strength to strength, this particular wine is quickly gathering momentum as one of the stand-out releases in the Bin series.

Bright and elegant, this wine brims with pure aromas of lemon, camomile and white peach, layered with pistachio and a subtle flinty edge. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with juicy white peach, zesty grapefruit and mouth-watering acidity. 2016 Penfolds Bin 138 Shiraz Grenache Mataro 750ml is a delicate blend from the Barossa Valley wine region. Christmas cake aromas are evident on the nose and the palate is textured with an old Barossa disposition. A lengthy finish make this blend particularly enjoyable. Medium deep colour. Lovely juicy blackberry, dark plum aromas with ginger, savoury oak notes. Generous and polished in structure with dark plum, blackberry, ginger flavours, fine looseknit slinky textures and underlying roasted walnut, mocha notes. Finishes chocolaty and long with bitter sweet notes. A really attractive wine with lovely density and vinosity. Really great to drink soon, to take advantage of the ripe youthful and buoyant fruit, but should keep for quite a while developing an earthy complexity. Andrew Caillard MW93 Points

This non-vintage Champagne Brut Rosé marks the fourth wine released in Penfolds collaboration series with Champagne House Thiénot. In 2019, we re-ignited our love affair with France, a special place for Penfolds, and announced our inaugural Champagne partnership with Thiénot. Alongside Thiénot, a respected player in the world of Champagne, Penfolds first released three extraordinary Champagnes in 2019: A Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée, and Grand Cru single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs and single-vineyard Blanc de Noirs, all from the exceptional 2012 vintage. With our first Champagne Brut Rosé release, we celebrate the shared mutual style and quality ambitions between Thiénot chef de cave Nicholas Uriel and Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago.

Widely regarded as one of Australia's benchmark fortified wines, the Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny rightfully lays claim to such a title. High quality blending stock has been lovingly matured in small oak casks, and creates a wine of immense complexity and depth.

Having gained complexity with bottle age, this Southern Rhône-inspired SGM blend (Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro) now offers a rich and heady, opulent experience. The fruit has matured into a complex weave of dried and glacéed cherry and pomegranate. This richness is beautifully lifted by warm, sweet spices like cardamom and paprika. Despite its full flavour, it remains gracefully medium-bodied, defined by a stunningly soft, seamless texture and a lacy mesh of assorted tannins that carry the flavours through a long, mouth-watering finish.

COLOUR Bright crimson NOSE Grenache in all its glory. Red fruits proudly lead the charge: raspberries, cranberries and pomegranate. Fragrant coulis on a summer berry pudding sprinkled with frozen strawberry dust. Ferric notes of steel wool and cordite allude to the iron-rich clay soil upon which the vines prosper in the Barossa Valley. Charcuterie aromas of Jamón ibérico conjure thoughts of Spanish tapas bars. Mojama dry cured tuna notes add an interesting slightly saline nuance. Rubbed olive leaves, sumac spice and ginger peel aromas round out a very enticing nose. Oak has been completely subdued by the generosity of the fruit. PALATE An approachable, medium bodied palate. Red fruits are to the fore, strawberries especially, with assorted wild fruit des bois. Refreshing acidity, manifesting as pomegranate juice and fresh cranberry, provides succulence and balance. Silken grenache tannins with a parchment, rice paper-like texture holds together the abundantly generous fruit. The composite elements are united in solidarity. A delightful debut Bin 21 Grenache. One of the benchmark wines to come out of the Coonawarra, the Penfolds Bin 128 is a delightful cool-climate shiraz. Matured in French Oak, with flavours of white pepper and floral spice, the 2014 Bin 128 is a rich and full-bodied Shiraz.

This is Penfolds second French Wine Trial from the storied vineyards of Bordeaux, crafted by blending three of the region's classic varietals – Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The palate is vibrant and contemporary with cherry and black fruits, cinnamon and nutmeg notes.

Bin 138 draws its inspiration from the wines of the southern Rhône Valley of France, where Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (or Mourvèdre) are blended in varying proportions to create full-bodied wines possessing rich and heady perfume. Each year fruit for Bin 138 is sourced from old Barossa Valley vineyards (some more than 100 years old) and after fermentation the wine is matured for 12 to 15 months in seasoned oak hogsheads.. Bin 138 is defined by its distinctive plum, raspberry pastille and underlying spicy notes. The first vintage release of this blend was the 1992 and early vintages were labelled ‘Old Vine’.
