Aromas of perfumed violets and roses laced with wild berries and juicy cassis are well framed by a backbone of tobacco leaf and musk. The palate is poised, with fruit concentration and silky tannins that spread softly across the palate with unctuous, juicy satsuma plum, mulberry, cherry, and cigar box notes. The well-orchestrated length unfolds fine-grained tannins, wrapping around the palate.

Cullen, world famous for their Diana Madeline Cabernet Merlot, have introduced another Cab Merlot, a distinguished offshoot of the Langton's classified Diana Madeline. Majority Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Merlot and touch of Petit Verdot gives the wine a luscious, bright cherry flavour with red berries playing their part. Aged in French oak, 40% of which was new, for one year. Delicious to serve with veal, lamb or beef today, but will also reward up to 10 years in the cellar.

2018 was one of the great vintages for Wilyabrup and Cullen Wines.The balanced crops and weather produced perfectly ripened grapes which turned into vinous heaven for the wine drinker! Doctors seemed to dominate the establishment of now-famous vineyards in Australia back in the 1960s and 70s … Lake’s Folly in the Hunter Valley, Mount Mary in the Yarra Valley, and Moss Wood and Cullen in Margaret River among the most famous. Spurred by the eminent scientist Dr John Gladstone’s advice that Margaret River was suitable for high quality wines, Dr Kevin Cullen, with his wife Diana, became one on the pioneers of the area planting grapes in 1971 as well as running cattle and sheep. The area proved the perfect sanctuary for the complete range of Bordeaux grape varieties, and these became the core of the vineyard, with the later addition of Chardonnay. His wife succeeded him followed by their very talented winemaking daughter Vanya. Vineyards have long been certified organic and biodynamic, with the best fruit destined for red and white dedicated to the founding couple – Diana Madeline for the Cabernet blend and Kevin John for the Chardonnay – Australian classics both.

Since taking over the reigns at Cullen in 1989, Vanya Cullen has taken this esteemed winery to new heights including winning for herself the Gourmet Wine Traveller Winemaker of the Year honours along the way. The Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is the sibling to the Cullen Vineyard version and shares the same level of elegance and flavour precision. Add to that precision an added layer of complexity and texture on the palate and you have what many consider to be Western Australia's premier 'classic dry white'.

Pale Amber colour. Very complex aromas already with orange bitters, almonds and a hint of honeysuckle. This wine has a textural and concentrated palate with great length and persistence. Delightful notes of orange, toffee and gentle saltiness on the finish. It is a tannic wine. This new release of our Amber wine is a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc selected from our certified Biodynamic vineyard. The wine was left on the skins and fermented partially before being pressed off. The skin maceration went from 9 days to 44 days depending on the parcel. The fruit was processed in different vessels: open fermenters, closed tanks as well as amphorae. This explains some of the complexity and the many layers of this wine. We look at it being a natural step in creative as well as artisanal winemaking. On the advice of eminent agronomist Dr. John Gladstones, Dr. Kevin and Diana Cullen planted a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup, Margaret River in 1966. Commencing in 1971, 18 acres of vines were planted on their sheep and cattle farm, including their first Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc were planted between 1976 and 1978.

The Kevin John Chardonnay is Cullens flagship white from their biodynamic vineyards. A refined and elegant style brimming with white peach and citrus, showing bakery nutty complexity and deft oak integration. The wine is named in honour of Vanya Cullens father, the late Kevin John Cullen. Grapes are harvested on a flower or fruit day and whole-bunch pressed to obtain the highest quality juice. It is then barrel fermented with native yeasts in French oak barriques and matured for approximately 7 months in one- third new and two-thirds seasoned oak barrels.
