Arran 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
"Seamless" - whiskyadvocate.com Clearly a different beast to the previous presentation, but just as good. The colour alone will be a major head turner for many - almost as dark as tea, but it’s the way sherry combines with Arran’s superb distillate that makes this one of the real highlights of the new collection. Given enough air contact, the nose develops into a stunning drier-styled sherry hit: fresh from the bag dried apricots, pears in wine, orange zest, Turkish delight and bitter dark chocolate, plus a deft sprinkling of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg complete a beautiful composition that carries through to the palate. Again, dried fruits rally, this time accenting prunes, apricots and fruit mince pie. There's a flash of succulence before the finish turns deliciously bittersweet with citrus peels, fig, light rancio, gingery warmth and late hints of fruit and nut chocolate. Only slightly let down by the length - otherwise a brilliant juxtaposition of flavours. You simply don't find many like this nowadays. 46% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Very limited stocks.
Nikka Pure Malt Black Japanese Whisky
Nikka is owned by the brewer Asahi, the company was originally set up by Masataka Taketsuru, who built Yoichi distillery in 1934, having previously spent two years studying the art of distilling in Scotland. (He also developed the now famous 'Yamazaki' distillery in Kyoto for Suntory which he managed for ten years). Nikka's range of blended, pure malt and single malt whiskies will be exciting new discoveries for any Whisky enthusiast. Japanese whisky is slowly becoming on par with Scotland's famous distilleries among many of the leading whisky experts. Nikka Pure Malt Black Whisky is nutty and malty on the nose, with developing peat and a hint of ginger. In the mouth this is initially fresh and fruity – Spangles sweets, followed by subtle peat, toffee and spicy oak. The finish is lingering, sappy, peaty, and with pleasing fragrant notes. Nikka has done a great job integrating everything in the Pure Malt Black (i.e., a truly balanced blend of the peaty Yoichi and fruity Miyagikyo). One should never miss the opportunity to try a Nikka whisky neat, in an appropriate tasting glass in order to capture the full extent of the complexity and the unique profile each expression has to offer. Adding ice cubes to a fine whisky, however, is not at be seen as inappropriate in Japan. Ice cubes should be as large as possible, and the preferred option is one large block or ball of clear ice for a slow tasting experience. Japanese bartenders often hand-carve their ice for an unforgettable experience.

Benriach 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
In 1898, John Duff built the Speyside Distillery, BenRiach. It is one of the few distilleries with its own on-site floor malting and draws its water from the Burnside Springs. A richly sumptuous single malt, interwoven with mellow smoke and a masterful curation of oak. Crafted from a combination of unpeated and peated spirit and four cask matured for at least twenty five years in sherry casks, bourbon barrels, virgin oak casks and Madeira Island wine casks. During long maturation Benriach’s sweet Speyside smoke mellows and integrates with the fruit, malt and oak. After twenty-five years, rich layering develops into caramelised smoke, further enhanced through multi-layered cask maturation. The whisky from each cask type, imbued with particular flavour characteristics, is then expertly married together to create a sumptuous single malt, layered with baked fruit, honey malt and toasted oak spice with a long, rich, caramelised smoke finish. All in perfect balance.
The MacAllan 'Enigma' Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Pours Spanish sunset. Mature oak opens to reveal dried fruits, vanilla, sweet pears and cinnamon on the nose. Dried fruits and wood spices coat the palate. Ginger, cinnamon and oak give depth. The finish lingers, full and long.
Laphroaig 10 Year Old Sherry Oak Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Sherry and peat can be a challenging equation as the wine can almost cancel the peat. Some distilleries manage to get the balance right, creating a new and interesting take on much-loved classics (if your preference when drinking Laphroaig is to have it as coastal and earthy as possible, this may not be for you). The sherry oak finish isn't generally available in Australia, and we've only been able to secure a tiny volume. It has a higher ABV in its favour - the standard 10YO is just 40% - with Oloroso sherry casks in support. Apart from the expected smoke, seaweed and salt, you'll find notes of manuka honey, bacon and maple syrup. Probably lightly filtered, but it's not stated on the label. 48% Alc./Vol. Very limited stocks.
