Medium bodied, elegant and superbly structured, the palate features a tightly knit matrix of red to black currant, mulberry and black olive flavours. Bright youthful acidity and an assertive grainy tannin structure provide an iron girder like core. Notions of tobacco, dried herbs, vanillin cedar and spicy bay leaf infusions also chime in. Product Information: On one special day each year, the Rockford rescue their friends from their toil in the restaurant and retail trade of Adelaide. Rockford, the legends they are, prise them from thick white linen and smoky kitchens, arm them with "der schnipses" and send them out into the sunshine to pick the Cabernet Sauvignon from the one and a half acre of Home Block. By the time the grapes get to the vintage shed they have been washed by the tears and blood of some very highly skilled chefs and waiters. Of course, it's not all 'hard work'. As a reward their efforts, Rockford sit the crew down to a big Barossa lunch and a few bottles of Rockford's best, then gather to watch the harvest go through the Bagshaw crusher - yes, the same one they use for the fabled Rockford Basket Press Shiraz. After open vat fermentation and being basket pressed, the wine is aged in seasoned French oak hogsheads and large vats for three years. This allows the tannins to soften, colours and flavours to consolidate and achieves a deeply varietal wine that is soft and generous. With a track record of ageing comfortably for 8-10+ years from release, this is a terrific wine for the cellar or share at a big table. Vineyard: In 2017, 1250 Magnums of Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon were produced from the small home vineyard. Winemaking is largely traditional, using basket presses, open-topped slate fermenters and a 1880s petrol-driven Bagshaw destemmer/crusher. Nose - Dark Fruits, Truffle, Leafy Underbrush There are tomato-bush and leafy underbrush aromas. Palate - Deep Plum, Blackcurrants, Bramble The palate's sinewy and lean, forward and quite approachable. With a strong commitment to the philosophy of ‘quality without compromise’, Two Hands Wines use a strict classification process to ensure that only the best barrels each vintage are deemed worthy of being bottled as a Flagship Series wine. Six months after vintage, a selection of barrels from our best parcels of fruit are carefully assessed by Chief Winemaker Richard Langford, looking for the finest cuvee and given a classification grade associated with its place in the Two Hands portfolio. With this focus on detail, it means only the best barrels make it through and quality is maintained even in the toughest vintages, albeit at lower quantities. Each year, only a handful of barrels come in at the top of the class, scoring an A+; these barrels become wines in our Flagship Series. These ultra-premium wines represent the very finest varietal selections from each vintage.

The inaugural 1997 vintage of this Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend set a new standard of quality for wines from South America when it won a series of blind tastings against first growths and other prestigious cuvees from around the world. In 1898, Nicola Catena left his homeland of Italy, and sailed for the land of plenty and opportunity: Argentina. It wasn't long before Nicola planted his first Malbec vineyard in Mendoza in 1902. Although traditionally used as a blending grape in Bordeaux, Nicola believed in the potential of Malbec as a single varietal wine, and suspected that it might uncover its hidden splendour in the cooler climes of the Andes. Flash forward a few decades, to where Nicola's grandson, Nicolas Catena Zapata, has taken over the management of the business. He sold off the bulk producing parts of the company, focusing instead on producing premium Mlabec and Cabernet. To that end, he began searching for the best sites in Mendoza to plant. In 1992, he settled on Gualtallary Alto - the highest and moste Western part of Tupungato. Today, the wines of Bodega Catena Zapata are sourced from six historic estate vineyards: Angélica, La Pirámide, Nicasia, Domingo, Adrianna and Angélica Sur.

Based on Cabernet, Sassicaia is one of the first Italian reds to be made in the image of Bordeaux. In the late 1990s Sassicaia was granted its own DOC, the only wine from a single vineyard to enjoy this privilege.
