Vasse Felix, Margaret River's founding wine estate, was established by Dr Thomas Brendan Cullity in 1967. Among his first plantings were Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec vines, from which he produced the estate's first red wine. The Tom Cullity descends from these original vines and represents the pinnacle of Vasse Felix. The inaugural release will be in May 2017, coinciding with Vasse Felix's 50th Anniversary.

Promontory is the result of Bill Harlan’s decades-long search for a singular, untamed site in Napa Valley. Located in a secluded canyon south of Oakville, the estate spans a unique geological convergence of volcanic, sedimentary, and metamorphic soils. Unlike the valley floor, these steep, high-altitude slopes are often shrouded in morning fog and surrounded by native forest. This specific terroir produces a Cabernet Sauvignon that is frequently described as the "missing shade of red" a wine with more mineral tension and structural grip than its siblings, Harlan Estate and BOND. The winemaking approach prioritises the expression of this rugged site through extended ageing. Fermentation occurs in a mix of concrete and oak vats, followed by roughly 36 months of maturation in large Austrian oak casks. These neutral vessels are chosen to refine the wine’s natural power without masking it with new wood flavours. Before release, the wine spends an additional period in the bottle, ensuring the tannins are integrated, and the wine is ready for the cellar. On the nose, Promontory is marked by crushed rock, graphite, and wild sage, alongside deep notes of black cherry and woodsmoke. The palate is characterised by its verticality and energy, featuring firm, fine-grained tannins and high acidity. You can expect concentrated flavours of cassis, liquorice, and cedar, finishing with a persistent, savoury mineral trail. This is a muscular, sophisticated Cabernet built for collectors, offering a distinct departure from the classic Napa profile.

LOKOYA Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

MATTHIASSON Phoenix Vineyard Cabernet, Napa Valley The Phoenix Vineyard was planted back in 1982 on the steep hillside above the winery. They used old heritage field selections of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Mattiasson converted to Organic Farming, planting new vines where some of the old vines had given up. The rock content and sea minerals of the soils create unique wines with high-toned red fruits, perfumed and exotic, with a lightness in the mid-palate yet a long, firm, and structured finish. Its singular enough, yet complete enough, to be worthy of a single vineyard designation.

Château Figeac is a wine estate that had a very long history. It was once part of the Cheval Blanc estate, whichs soils was well known to be two-thirds of gravel, allowing Cab Sauv, Cab Franc and Merlot to grow flourishingly in the area. The 2010 Figeac, had a beautiful complexity to enjoy now or the longevity to cellar for those who prefers. Wine will benefit from decanting.

With one of the longest and most pedigreed histories in the Medoc region, Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases has passed through the hands of some of Frances most notable and wealthiest noble families, culminating in the Las Cases family - the final royal family to hold title to the Chateau. Up until the French Revolution, after which large portions of it were sold off, it was one of the largest vineyards in Bordeaux. Today, the estate remains family owned by the Delons, of which brother Jean Hubert and sister Genevieve manage proceedings. Famed for producing a wine of structure, power, and traditional style, the 2016 vintage has earned outstandingly high praise, including a score of 100 from Andrew Caillared and a 19/20 from Jancis Robinson who praised its extraordinary vitality and energy and proclaimed it glorious to taste now.

Few places seem to posses the divinely ordained right to produce Bordeaux’s other iconic export, Sauternes, quite like Clos Haut-Peyaguey. Across 12 hectares of plateau-topping Premier Cru Classé vineyard, Semillon (and a smidge of Sauvignon) grapes patiently wait out summer for the noble rot to set in. We’re talking about botrytis, of course. Once it does, the sweetest grapes are handpicked for vinification before being sent for a French oak siesta.
