The mission of 'Swell Season is to produce elegantly expressive wines from organically grown fruit. All their vineyards are 100% organically certified. "Stylish and complex, the inviting bouquet shows blackcurrant, dried herb, game and nutmeg aromas, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate delivering richly textured mouthfeel, backed by chalky tannins, making it sturdy and structured with a lengthy, engaging finish. "Big and gold, lots of chocolaty plum fruit, cassis, tobacco, liquorice. An extremely polished effort" (Decanter World Wine Awards). The legendary Opi Sadler has triumphed again! His Waxed Bat Reserve edition had taken Gold and Platinum medals, then Best in Show Trophy at the highly prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards. That was beating 17,000 other wines from around the world. Perhaps it should be of no surprise when we know it has so much intense ripe black fruit and creamy oak. It clearly shows that Malbec and Cabernet from Argentina's high altitude Mendoza region is a match made in heaven. Even better when the wines are aged in barrel, too. It's a sumptuous mouthfilling red, smooth enough to drink solo but at its very best with garlic studded roast lamb, a juicy steak or a warming casserole. Decant early if you can.

Bleasdale is “one of the most historic wineries in Australia ... in 2015 celebrating 165 years of continuous winemaking by the direct descendants of the founding Potts family.” (Halliday). Among many major awards, they’ve won the Jimmy Watson Trophy and winemaker Paul Hotker, a “master blender”, was named Halliday’s Winemaker of the Year 2018. Barely any oak gets in the way of its pure fruit expression, with classical regional chocolate notes more important in the overall sense of the palate. Cape Jaffa was a pioneer both in the Mt Benson region and in terms of its focus on biocynamics and sustainability. The first of the Mount Benson wineries,Cape Jaffa’s fully certified biodynamic vineyard provides 50% of production, with additional fruit sourced from a certified biodynamic grower in Wrattonbully. This is a lovely drop for warmer weather. As Shanteh Wale says in The Halliday Wine Companion, this is “made for drinking and good times. Serve slightly chilled" but it is not without complexity. "Blackberries, prune, plums and thistle. Picked oregano, margoram and green olive.”

We have known and worked with Sam Trimboli for decades, during which time he's made many of our biggest selling wines, and he's notched up a huge stack of medals for them too. Sam has loved ducks since he was a boy. His first pet was a little duck he led around on a leash like a puppy. He loves the symbolism of the duck: ducks are flexible (they swim, fly and walk), they’re loyal and love family (think mother ducks and their ducklings) and they’re very adaptable. He named his 'signature' Durif The Black Duck, and has so far added a White Duck and a Pink Duck to the rabge, making this Purple Duck the fourth member of a very popular family. We thinks it's going to prove itself a mighty duck indeed!
