The now much sought after Righteous range of wines from Kym Teusner was first established in 2005 with the Grenache and this is the latest incarnation of this foreboding Barossa wine. Sourced from an 80 year old bush-vine vineyard, the Righteous Grenache was gently crushed and fermented in open fermenters with regular pump-overs. Maturation was completed in a mix of French and American oak and has resulted in a modern classic Grenache.

Product Information: From a sunny 2023 vintage, the 1489 Rose is a blend of 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah. A gastronomic rosé showcasing a delightful aromatic profile mineral and complex wine. Bright, pale eau-de-rose colour with hints of vine peach. The nose reveals intense aromas of wild berries such as raspberry and spring flowers. Notes of vanilla and toast delicately enrich the bouquet. The palate is greedy and fruity. It’s an airy wine, chiselled and full of finesse. The balance between freshness and generosity is the key here. Meticulously hand-picked grapes, some parcels were picked in two times. Manual sorting directly on the bunch and in the winery. Cold pressing and settling. Aged in stainless steel tanks, large format vats and 225l and 500l barrels of which new oak is used. Roseblood is a unique rosé that embodies the rich history and cultural significance of its estate, infused with the passion of its surroundings and its owners, epitomising the Art of Living in Provence. Philosophy: The vines are situated on the crater of Provence’s sole volcano, on parcels at altitudes exceeding 1,300 feet. Approximately 50 years old and benefit from the nurturing influence of the Mistral wind. Planted in clay-limestone and clay-limestone-marl soils, the Syrah plots contain fragments of basalt in their soil composition. With well-established roots, the vines express the purest terroir essence, resulting in limited yields and, consequently, a concentration and balance in the grapes. In this blend of four emblematic Provençal grape varietals, each plays a distinctive role: Grenache contributes roundness, delicacy, and subtle aromas, while Syrah adds power and colour. Cinsault, known for finesse and fruity notes, gently balances the strength provided by Grenache and Syrah. Rolle, the iconic white grape of Provence, introduces a touch of tension, freshness, and floral notes to complete this well-balanced blend. Nose - Watermelon, Nectarine, Dried Cranberry Watermelon, mango and nectarine and Spring flowers. Palate - Round, Menthol Lifts, Basil Balsamic Strawberry Raspberry with a sort of basil-balsamic-strawberry combination that seems appropriately summery. No oak scent, but plenty of textural character that makes this about as full-bodied as pink wine gets. Finish - Raspberry, Salty, Sweet Spice A touch of menthol lifts the salty, liquorice-inflected finish.

2016 Penfolds Bin 138 Shiraz Grenache Mataro 750ml is a delicate blend from the Barossa Valley wine region. Christmas cake aromas are evident on the nose and the palate is textured with an old Barossa disposition. A lengthy finish make this blend particularly enjoyable. Medium deep colour. Lovely juicy blackberry, dark plum aromas with ginger, savoury oak notes. Generous and polished in structure with dark plum, blackberry, ginger flavours, fine looseknit slinky textures and underlying roasted walnut, mocha notes. Finishes chocolaty and long with bitter sweet notes. A really attractive wine with lovely density and vinosity. Really great to drink soon, to take advantage of the ripe youthful and buoyant fruit, but should keep for quite a while developing an earthy complexity. Andrew Caillard MW93 Points

Medium-bodied, rich and perfumed. A rush of summer berry fruits and sweet spice notes. An aromatic, approachable wine that offers great versatility with a wide selection of cuisines, including grilled red meats, Italian sausage and antipasto. Aromas: An inviting nose that offers perfumed aromatics and pastry-like complexity. A note of lifted cherry danish, complete with a subtle hint of icing dusting. The sweetness continues with cannoli filled with creamy custard, while vanilla and almond slivers add a nutty, floral richness. Cranberry and forest fruits provide a vibrant core, highlighted by exotic spices like cardamom, cinnamon and thyme. Floral notes of hibiscus blend seamlessly with aromas of white strawberry and fresh plum, resulting in a nose that is both sweet and bright. Palate: On the palate, this medium-bodied wine unfolds gracefully, showcasing luscious, sweet fruits alongside dark generous offerings that speak to its three-varietal composition. Pink pepper adds a light spiciness over brambly fruit notes. The Grenache component lends tension and elegance, contrasted by the generous heartiness of Shiraz and complemented by the earthy undertones of savoury Mataro. Well integrated slatey tannins craft a structure that is both firm and approachable, while balanced acidity ensures the wine's freshness persists through each taste. One of the bast examples going around. Incredibly ripe and sweet fruited bouquet and palate, showing Grenache's love for the heat; soft and ripe, warm and fleshy, with a splash of savoury spice to conclude.

Grenache in all its glory. Red fruits proudly lead the charge: raspberries, cranberries and pomegranate. Fragrant coulis on a summer berry pudding. Ferric notes of steel wool and cordite allude to the iron-rich clay soil upon which the vines prosper in the Barossa Valley. Charcuterie aromas of Jamón ibérico and Mojama dry cured tuna notes add an interesting slightly saline nuance. Rubbed olive leaves, sumac spice and ginger peel aromas round out a very enticing nose. Grenache has long been a stalwart of the South Australian wine scene and Penfolds have been blending Grenache with Shiraz since the 1950's. Recent years has seen a growing trend for the luscious perfumed styles like those emanating out of the northern Rhône and the Bin 138 produces a brilliant example. David & Nadia are two new age winemakers who are making waves across the world. Pretty impressive considering the (very) small volumes they make, each bottle as pristine as the next. Their sustainably farmed vineyard in South Africa is planted in deep, clay soils, allowing their old vines to grow flourished. Perfumed with flowers and rich notes of red berries, this Swartland treasure is smooth and gentle. Red fruit forward, its palate is balanced with earthy notes and a little touch of truffle and vanilla. This wine is just light enough to be drunk with lunch and we suggest to pair it with the fanciest charcuterie platter you can whip up. We’re talking all the imported cheeses and meats you can’t pronounce. Add a little bit of raw honeycomb and fresh strawberries and you’ve got yourself a great time.
