Nebbiolo

Roberto Voerzio Rocche dell Annunziata

Roberto Voerzio Rocche dellAnnunziata Barolo Le Rocche dellAnnunziata is a special Cru. Were there a Grand Cru classifcaition in Barolo, this would certainly be one of the first to gain such certification. Roberto Voerzios expression shows prop forward power, drive and determination. With good cellaring and decanting, the youthful ferocity calms to reveal more fresh herbs and balsam wood. Crush red fruits, orange peel and a touch of chocolate.

Elvio Cogno Vigna Elena Riserva, Barolo Ravera

Elvio Cogno Vigna Elena Riserva Barolo The first vineyard planted by Cogno, on lighter sandier soils within Ravera. It is named after maker Valter Fissores daughter. Today it is a cult wine, prized among regional aficionados for alluring floral aromas, an intensity of flavour and a lattice of bracing tannins juxtaposed against a chiaroscuro of supple herbal notes, a winning finesse and a lightish hue. This is because Riserva Elena is crafted with the rare Nebbiolo sub-variety Rosé, one of but three permitted in the region. This strongly supports the oft-referenced affinity between Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir; great Barolo and Burgundy. 'the estate of Elvio Cogno has unequivocally thrust itself into the pantheon of top Barolo makers.'Ned Goodwin MW Shop Elvio Cogno

Conterno Fantino Sori Ginestra Barolo

Conterno Fantino is an Italian wine producer based in Piedmont wine region in the northwest of the country. Located close to the village of Monforte d'AlbaIt, the estate was established in 1982 and today, produces wine from four key grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Chardonnay. The wine portfolio is led by a small collection of Barolo DOCG wines from the Ginestra and Mosconi cru vineyards. These wines are all fermented and macerated on their skins in stainless steel fermenters for approximately 8-15 days and spend 24 months in French oak barrels before aging in the bottle for 12 months. In the vineyard, grapes are hand-harvest to ensure only those of premium-quality are brought into the winery. The fermentation process occurs with indigenous yeasts, with a majority of wines also going thorough malolactic fermentation. French oak is sourced for barrel-aging.

Heathcote Nebbiolo

Discover the refined elegance of Heathcote Estate Single Vineyard Nebbiolo 2021, a 750mL gem from Victoria’s Heathcote region, crafted by acclaimed winemaker Tom Carson. Sourced from a new vineyard block established in 2017 and certified organic in September 2021, this inaugural Nebbiolo release was hand-picked in mid-April, seven weeks after the Shiraz, allowing extended ripening into autumn. Whole berries underwent natural fermentation in oak vats, followed by maturation in older French oak 500L barrels until bottling in February 2022, yielding a mid-crimson red hue at 14% ABV. The nose is pure Nebbiolo, with uncluttered aromas of pure red fruits, rose petals, cranberry, pomegranate, Campari, and a lick of wet stone. The palate is super fine and detailed, offering pure red fruits, firm tannins, and a fine acid line, finishing long and savoury with notes of undergrowth, cherries, tobacco, and decayed roses. Described as “most impressive” by Campbell Mattinson of The Wine Front, this Nebbiolo pairs beautifully with heavy sauces or flavourful meat dishes like braised lamb, with 10 plus years of cellaring potential. A collector’s treasure showcasing Heathcote’s terroir and organic winemaking.
