Brunello Ugolforte was named after a local revolutionary that lead the forces against Siena in the 12th century. From the oldest vineyards, the wine is aged in barriques (30% new) for twelve months and then in larger Slavonian casks for three years. A rich full-bodied Brunello with dark berry fruit and spice.

Marchesi Antinori’s Solaia 2017 is a benchmark blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese grown on the famed Solaia vineyard at Tenuta Tignanello. Crafted only in exceptional years, this is a wine with international pedigree, combining structure, elegance and depth—and the 2017 vintage is no exception. Grapes were harvested late September to early October after a hot, dry summer followed by rain that tempered vine stress. Hand-sorted and gravity-fed into truncated cone fermentation tanks, vinification emphasised gentle extraction of ripe fruit balanced with fine tannins. Aging took place over 18 months in new French oak, with barrels kept separately before blending to allow full integration. The result is rich yet nuanced: dark fruit intensity meets lifted mint and balsamic notes, interwoven with spice and cocoa. The tannins are smooth and polished, the structure seamless. Deep dark red core with black shaded edges and a red to brick red hue. Spicy red currant and red cherry aromas tinged with hints of rose petals are followed by earth, tobacco, dried herb and subtle graphite like notes. Medium bodied spicy ripe red currant and red cherry fruits are underpinned by graphite like tannins and vibrant acidity. Notions of scorched earth, tobacco and dried herbs ensue. Concludes long and spicy with a rustic feel. Drink over the next 6-8 years. Alc. 14.5%

Antinori is a name synonymous with wine in Italy, the equivalent of the royal family of wine in the country. Intimately involved in the wine industry of Italy since 1385. The Pian Delle Vigne estate was aquired by the Antinori family in 1995. A deep and brilliant ruby red in colour, the 2010 Pian delle Vigne is characterized by complex and intense aromas: floral notes accompanied by fragrant sensations of wild cherries, raspberries, and perceptible presence of plums, mints, and eucalyptus. Balanced and ample on the palate with full and intense flavours and texture, this Sangiovese is elegant and noble in the tactile sensations of its tannins and very mineral as well, a Brunello which promises significant expressive possibilities as it ages and develops over time.
