Isole e Olena owner and winemaker Paolo de Marchi, is a legend in Tuscany and in the wider world of wine. The Cepparello IGT is the flagship Super Tuscan from Isole e Olena. Paolo de Marchi was at the vanguard of the revolutionary Super Tuscan movement and these wines are the product of his vision. The 2013 Pian della Vigne shows a brilliant ruby red colour. The nose is delicate and complex with notes of ripe fruit, cherries, and plums, perfectly balanced with sensations of dried and candied fruit and spices. The palate is ample with supple tannins and is enlivened by a note of vibrant acidity which fully brings out the intense persistence and pleasure of aromas. The finish offers hints of tobacco, dark chocolate, and berry fruit. An extremely elegant and bracingly savoury wine of great finesse. Acquired by the Marchesi Antinori family in 1995, the Pian Delle Vigne estate is located 6km to the South of the town of Montalcino and consists of 184 hectares of land of which 65 are planted with vines and the remainder with olive groves and woodland. The stony, clay and limestone soils are planted entirely too various Sangiovese clones on elevations between 180 and 250 metres above sea level. Two stunning wines are produced at the estate the Pian Delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and the Pian Delle Vigne Vigna Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva, beautifully rich, balanced wines, true to their terroir and superb drinking.

In the 1950s, the father of current winemaker Paolo di Marchi purchased the adjoining hamlets of Isole and Olena and their estates in the Tuscan commune of Barberino Val d'Elsa. The concept and style of Cepparello was developed by Paolo De Marchi over a period beginning in the mid 1970's. This Sangiovese wine is named after a small stream, Borro Cepparello, originating in the highest point of the vineyards on the Isole e Olena estate.
