One of the benchmarks of Barossa Shiraz, Peter Lehmann's Stonewell is a classic example of the rich concentrated old vine style. While bold on the palate, there is always an inherent complexity to the Stonewell that enables it to be compared with all of the great Australian wines produced today.

Savour a Gold-medal, sumptuous and high-scoring Coonawarra Shiraz from Reschke and the 2016 vintage. “Gorgeously maturing…opulent mouthfeel…96pts” (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit). As cattle graziers in the Coonawarra since 1906, the bull has been part of the Reschke family heritage for over 100 years. You'll find a golden bull on the label and wine names always with a connection to their background too. Armenta means 'herd' in Latin. As Sam Kim points out this is maturing ecellently and Shanteh Wale in The Hallliday Wine Companion adds that "... this is drinking very well now."

"Flavours skip through sour plum, wild raspberry, blackberry pastille, soft licorice, ground ginger, dark rye, mace and a certain tarriness, measured but robust tannins closing out. "A super concentrated Shiraz from the Barossa, it was a low yielding season resulting in fruit of great concentration and power....smooth and velvety. 95pts (Ray Jordan WinePilot). "... packed with ripe Doris plum, black cherry and boysenberry fruit notes. Hints of dried cranberry, baking spice, licorice, fruit-and-nut chocolate, tapenade, violets and roasting meats. Full bodied, with compact, powdery tannins and some fine acidity. Nice red plum notes flow in on the palate, adding detail and a few lumens to the ripe fruit on show. Long finish too.95pts.” (Dave Brookes, The Halliday Wine Companion). The Schild Estate can boast Shiraz vines planted by Ann Jacobs in 1847. The Schild's first arrived in Australia in 1866, and the family moved to the Barossa and purchased vineyards here in 1952. They did not make their first 'Schild' branded wine until 1998, but the estate's reputation grew steadily. Although no longer owned by the family, the estate's vineyards are all still under the family's control.

The grapes for Kilikanoon Attunga were obtained from some of oldest vines in the island country of Australia. The fruit is renowned for its intense flavours and its juice for the tremendous ageing potential. The small, thick-skinned berries were fermented and basket pressed to result in low yielding juice. The ferment was then matured for 27 months in large casks of French oak. This wonderful red wine was bottled unfiltered to preserve the character of the grape.

Leogate Estate was established in 2009 by Bill and Vicki Widin, however, their vines are much older. The winery has maintained a 5 Red Star rating for well over a decade now, and their Western Slope has rarely fallen below 95pts in that same period, such is the impressive consistency of this Reserve Shiraz. The 2017 vintage presented a smaller yield vintage for Hunter reds, which means concentration of flavour has been high. This is well deserving of a place in your cellar. “It puts on a classy display based on a core of cherry-plum flavour though it's also appropriately adorned in smoky, cedary oak. Earth and spice notes strut throughout and the texture is silken. It doesn't put a foot wrong, and it's impressive... 95pts” (Halliday Wine Companion, Campbell Mattinson).

This Heirloom Vineyards Eden Valley Shiraz has lifted red fruit signature of Eden Shiraz, but its site also offers some very unique and distinctive aromas of blackberry and intriguing notes of a spice, and the perfume of blueberries. The palate is cool, fresh and light, but persistently fruity and very zingy. The finish is fine, natural and unforced. It's a delicious, confident drink. There is some cream and spice from the French Oak but it's all about the pure fruit.
