Medium gold with yellow highlights in color. The intense grapefruit and white peach, gun flint minerality, fresh brioche, subtle nuttiness, fruit purity and slightly charry oak all converge on the nose. The palate shows balanced French oak, creamy and long, with a fine talc-like grip, a spine of ripe acid backbone balanced with carefully considered malolactic fermentation to support this brighter, tighter style.

Domaine Roy Willamette Valley Chardonnay
Marc-André Roy and Jared Etzel established Domaine Roy and fils in 2012 to celebrate their heritage and continue the winemaking history of their fathers, Robert Roy and Michael Etzel, who founded the renowned Beaux Frères Winery in 1991. With a minimalist winemaking approach and a commitment to organic farming, these are wines of purity and transparency expressing the land from which the wines are farmed. Sourced from the Iron Filbert and Quartz Acorn vineyards, the Chardonnay grapes are hand-harvested and whole-cluster pressed to preserve the full richness of the aromas, with fermentation and aging in French oak (5% new) for 10 months. The resulting wine shows complex, flinty, struck-match barrel ferment characters, with a complex creamy nose and white stone fruits, and a tightly wound palate, displaying delicate textural elements, subtle vanilla, green apple acidity. A compelling balance of richness with tension and freshness.
Robert Mondavi Winery Napa Valley Chardonnay
Fruit was predominately sourced from the cooler areas in the southern end of the Napa Valley where bay fog and breezes allow the grapes to ripen at a gradual, flavour building pace while retaining refreshing, natural acidity. A small percentage (4%) of fruit from Sonoma’s cool, ocean-influenced Russian River Valley adds diverse texture and flavour. Fermented in French oak barrels (16% new) then aged for a further 9 months in the same barrels on its yeast lees with regular stirring. Bright straw colour with a watery hue. Intense ripe peach, honeycomb and crème brulee scents fill the nostrils followed by some butterscotch, bacon fat and spicy nougat notes. Rich, round and fat the full bodied palate is awash with ripe peach, honeycomb and butterscotch flavours which meld into a bacon fat, roasted almond and spice background. Creamy textured it finishes long, toasty and opulent. Drink over the next 3-4 years. Alc. 13.5%

DUCKHORN NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY
Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent nearly fifty years establishing itself as one of North America’s premier producers of Napa Valley wines. Blending fruit from estate vineyards and top Napa Valley growers, this Cabernet embodies the complexity of the valley, while offering a seamless balance between fruit, oak and tannins. To add balance, complexity, and detail, the Cabernet is blended with 4% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, yielding a wine that is approachable in its youth, yet worthy of cellaring. Matured for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels, of which 50% were new. This voluptuous wine reveals aromas of spiced blackberry, blueberry, and blackcurrant, milk chocolate and liquorice. On the palate, lively acidity adds poise and brightness to the blackberry and black raspberry flavours, with rich, chocolatey tannins and notes of black tea adding suppleness and sophistication to a long, luxurious finish.

This is a very stylish numbe from Phil Sexton and his team. Stonefruit, melon and butterscotch characters are supported by vanillin oak and the palate is long and textured with a clean crisp finish.
