This wine exhibits aromas of fresh citrus blossom, pineapple, passionfruit and hints of melon. This follows through to a weighty palate with Honeydew melon, grapefruit and nuances of lime zest. This wine has a natural weight and concentration that lingers on the palate before finishing with a crisp citrus twist. The son of farmers, Jamie found that making wine was a superior choice to farming sheep. In Marlborough, the small New Zealand region, the industry literally grew up around him. At Stoneleigh, the philosophy is less is more. Its about making sure everything they do has a purpose, not simply following tradition or fads. This minimal intervention style of winemaking invites golden moments that come together to let the wines and vines tell their own story. - Jamie Marfell, Chief Winemaker. Devil's Lair Honeybomb Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
The Honeybomb Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is a punchy and textural expression of a Margaret River SSB. It is very much in the Devil's Lair playground, experimenting with a small percentage of oak and lees work to add complexity whilst respecting varietal aromatics and purity. Defined by a mineral edge (quartz comes to mind) and muddled lime with a zesty line and salivating acidity layered with elements of starfruit and nashi pear like texture captured from a small barrel ferment component.Devil’s Lair senior winemaker Ben Miller’s enthusiasm for wine is extraordinary. Growing up in the Hunter Valley, he was encouraged to be adventurous, curious and hard working. It was playing rugby in many of the world’s winemaking regions, travelling and working through New Zealand, France, Spain, Portugal, US, Italy, Coonawarra, McLaren Vale and Margaret River that sparked a further love of wine. He’s now settled in Margaret River where he has the 'opportunity to work on the land and create something that speaks of its place'.
