A blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, The Steading takes its name from an old Scottish term used for a group of homes on a ridge. The fruit at the heart of the wine is sourced from old bush vines. The Steading is matured for 24 months in old French oak hogsheads, yielding a wine resplendent with fragrant red forest berries, five spice and leather.

Pretty and immediately expressive, multi layered aromas of raspberry, dried cherries, lifted spices and rhubarb.Medium bodied with layers of tannins and savoury earthy flavours balanced with a textured waves of spicy fruit. Complex, soft on the palate with a fineness and elegance counter balanced with generosity and depth of texture that speaks of it’s munda (land or country).

The wines in Yalumbas Distinguished Sites collection, including the Vine Vale, capture the true essence of specific, special sites. In th glass: Pale garnet. On the nose: Raspberry, cranberry, white pepper & vanilla. On the palate: Silky & smooth with a charming mix of red fruit, subtle pepper & dried herb notes, fine, velvety tannins & mouth-feel. A lighter, almost Pinot-like style of Grenache.

Torbreck The Steading is a decadent blend of three traditional Barossa varieties. Grenache and Mataro from old bush vines provide wonderful richness and fruit flavours with only free run Shiraz used to allow the Grenache to shine through.

The 2015 Steading has a fragrancy, purity of fruit, mid-palate concentration and savoury tannin profile that makes it an exemplary wine. Vibrant aromas of violet, star anise hints of violet and spice all unfold to reveal an impressive array of underlying fruit flavours. Silky, succulent dark fruits, black olive, savoury earth, liquorice and Asian spice. These complex yet elegant flavours are all neatly interwoven with a perfect balance of acidity and supple, silky tannins. The 2015 Steading will continue to develop with time in the cellar, and provide those with patience great enjoyment well into the next decade.

Family Vignerons for seven generations, dating back to 1840's when Johann George Mattner first pioneered land on the banks of Jacobs Creek, Barossa Valley. Grandfather entrusted myself to carry forward this legacy, that become apparent when I inherited a collection of family history books, handwritten notes and winemaking journals dating back to early last century. Inspired by this collection of generational knowledge, we crafted these wines to honour tradition and carry forward our family legacy. Our Grenache wines are small batch production with only 509 cases produced. Single vineyard fruit was carefully selected from Southern Barossa Valley sub-region of Lyndoch, then guided through the vinification process. Handcrafted with minimal intervention winemaking methods and attention to detail. Gentle destemming some whole bunch inclusion, wild ferment, maceration and gravitational transfer into an old basket press for gentle extraction of colour and tannin.
