As winemaker Bryan Currie shows, it can be done, and very well. “Light in colour but it has its kicking boots on. Cranberry, red cherry, meaty spice and wood smoke flavours combine beautifully. It kicks quality goals from start to finish; tannin, acid and texture are all in good form too... 93 points” (Halliday).

Proudly, a wine style that hasn’t succumbed to the dictates of fashion or commerce. St Henri is rich and plush when young, gaining soft, earthy, mocha-like characters as it ages. It is matured in old, 1,460 litre vats that allow the wine to develop, imparting minimal, if any oak character. Although a small proportion of Cabernet is sometimes used to improve structure, the focal point for St Henri remains Shiraz.

One of our absolute favourites, our Cabernet Sauvignon is matured in oak casks for that light vanillin oak finish. Its a lively red with a smooth finish, presenting fine velvety tannins and an intense blackcurrant jam flavour on the palate. Despite its complexity it is a great easy-drinking red, but we recommend it paired with hearty, meaty dishes such as a lasagne, steak or a cheese platter.
