The pinot noir grape variety seems to be well suited to the cool climate environment of the Denmark sub-region of the Great Southern. The pinot noir fruit from Robertsons vineyard typically displays floral and perfumed characters with an underlying dense cherry and raspberry fruit profile followed by a subtle savoury finish. The Wine is a fuller styled pinot with perfumed aromas of red raspberries, cherries, subtle earthiness and spice. These characters follow through on the palate with a medium weight and textured mouth feel with soft tannins and a long finish. This wine is well suited to complement red meat dishes especially duck. Drink now or allow this to continue to develop in the bottle for up to 7 years.

Marchand & Burch Mt Barrow Pinot Noir

Aromas of red fruits and mushroom with scents of bouquet garni herbs and spices pervade the nose. This medium bodied wine has pinot noir typicity, balance, eveness and length. The red cherry stone fruit sweetness has a savoury and herbal edge wrapped in a filigreed fine tannin structure of great finesse. 'There's some pretty exciting wine coming from the Frankland River region in Great Southern. Not only are there some fine wineries and winemakers in the region, the climate seems to be well suited to growing premium wines. Not a bad combination, in my view. The establishment up the road in Margaret River should be very proud to see another WA region making such fantastic wines, but it should also be wary of complacency. Singlefile has been on my radar for a while and it seldom puts a foot wrong. This cabernet from the Riversdale Vineyard is further proof of its credentials. It's got just the right amount of fruit, balanced with some more complex savoury characters and a palate that has the tension between tannin, acid and fruit in complete harmony.
