A riper expression of Sauvignon here. Quince, a little smoke, fresh pineapple, honey and leaf, a fleshy glossy glide, but cut with flinty texture and pink grapefruit acidity, finish is particularly long with orchard fruit, quinine and a smattering of green herb. Excellent wine.

The Chardonnay is crafted from naturally low yielding vines that provide fruit with great concentration and acidity. The resulting wine is powerful and intricate, displaying notes of gunsmoke, white peach, and nectarine, with hints of lemon and lime. The citrus note gives the wine length and vibrancy. Mineral, linear, lengthy and fine acidity carries the wine and gives this beautiful wine great age-ability.

CLOTILDE DAVENNE Saint Bris Vieilles Vignes Clotilde Davenne wines come from the village of Courgis, right next door to her winery in Prehy. The Saint Bris Vieilles Vignes has an intense fresh minerality with grapefruit, mandarin and peach notes. Generous aromas of peach, naval orange and meyerlemons with acacia blossom and a touch of brioche in the background lead to a creamy, and textural palate. Integrated nougat oak, with subtle spice and hints of flint are showcased on the palate. A fine, precise acidity flows through the wine to a persistent finish.

R de Rieussec, Château Rieussec's dry white wine, is a blend of 59% Sauvignon Blanc and 41% Sémillon, with 20% fermented in barrels to enhance aging potential. In 2013 only 2500 cases will be made (half the production of the last few abundant years and a fraction of the production of Ch. d’Yquem), but the final blend is not decided until early summer. Each barrel shows its individual character, but all had in common an energy, focus, persistence, depth and precision that makes this one of the wines of the vintage. The ethereal quality that I consider the hallmark of a great Climens was already noticeable as was an intense perfumed fragrance, which is the hallmark of the 2013 vintage. 2013 Climens is a jewel in the making and though its subtle elegance will make this approachable young, it has decades of ageing and evolving ahead.
