The Standish Lamella Shiraz
Product Description: The pinnacle of Eden Valley Shiraz, forged from legacy and precision. Lamella is the flagship Shiraz from Dan Standish, a sixth-generation Barossan and one of Australia’s most exacting winemakers. Sourced exclusively from the Angas family vineyard at Hutton Vale Farm in Eden Valley, the fruit comes from vines planted in the early 1960s using cuttings from the famed Mt Edelstone vineyard. This site, perched between Mt Edelstone and Hill of Grace, is one of the most prized in the country—and Lamella is its purest expression. Crafted entirely from whole bunches and fermented in small open oak vats, the 2021 vintage shows remarkable finesse and structure. Cool conditions delivered a wine of rare clarity and poise: jasmine tea, graphite, bergamot, and star anise float above layers of pomegranate, sage, and black tea. Each parcel is vinified separately, allowing Dan to make ruthless selections—up to 80% of fruit can be declassified—ensuring only the most compelling barrels are bottled. This is a wine of grand architecture and long cellaring potential. Best from 2027, but its dense core of black fruits, spice and fine-grained tannin will carry it through to 2043 with ease. Pair it with chargrilled meats, aged cheeses, or nothing at all—Lamella can speak for itself. Wendouree Shiraz Mataro
Wendouree Shiraz Mataro is deep in colour, has blackberry and liquorice core and hugely famous tannins. The wines from Wendouree are honourable wines - highlighting the connectivity of winemaker, traditional wine-making practices, regional characteristics and vineyard personality.
Wendouree Shiraz Malbec
With plenty of blackberry, plum, mulberry and menthol-like fruit and fine, rusty, almost unyielding tannins, this is a strong, firm wine by Wendouree with plenty of lasting power. The Shiraz component derives from vineyard plots that include bush vine material. Parcels of very old vine Malbec bring further distinctiveness. The wine is vinified in open fermenters and matured for 12 months in new and used French oak.
Penfolds Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz
The Penfolds Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is a relatively new addition to the Penfolds stable, sourced from the Barossan sub-district, Marananga. Simply a revelation, this wine is an inky, black beast in the glass with lashings of dark chocolate and coffee accented fruit, yet this years offering shows a lingering, soft structured finish that will see the wine cellar very nicely.
Hardys Eileen Hardy Shiraz
A new label and new take on a classic. The Eileen Hardy Shiraz is juicy, plump and full of life with a magnificent backbone of tannin and spice without being overbearing. A classic in the making.
Grant Burge Meshach
By Farr Shiraz
Shiraz By Farr is one of Victoria's premier cool-climate Shiraz's, made by the iconic Geelong winemaker, Gary Farr. The nose is incredibly complex showing notes of red and black fruits, spice, black pepper and iodine. In the mouth the wine is incredibly fresh. Wonderfully braced fruit and fine framing tannins and an outstanding length.
Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz
Yarra Yering is not only a Victorian icon, but a true Australian wine treasure. The Underhill Shiraz is sourced exclusively from the 1974 planted block of Shiraz at the western-most extremity of the vineyard. Drawn from soils with a higher clay base which has resulted in a wine of a more masculine bent offering darker fruits and spice with chewier tannins and a savoury undertone.
Kaesler Alte Reben Shiraz
Kaesler Alte Reben Shiraz was crafted using fruit sourced from the Marananga vineyard. Handpicked and left on skins for 7 days, the wine was pumped twice a day, followed by maturation in French oak. The resulting Shiraz wine obtained presents a deep red colour. Aromas of mulberry, blackberry, dark chocolate and espresso flow off the elegant bouquet. The scrumptious palate features juicy fruit flavours integrating with youthful oak tannins. This wonderful red varietal can be cellared gracefully for a few years. It tastes excellent with brisket, grilled lamb and beef stew.
Caels Gate Handpicked Shiraz
On the palate ripe berries, rich fruitcake and chocolate flavours can be noted, along with a silky smooth and velvety finish. Dense fully body with an aromatic display of dark fruit, spicy oak and sweet tobacco. Lovely full bodied wine that is sweet and fruity in the mouth. Very flavoursome with well balanced oak.
