Grenache has long been a stalwart of the South Australian wine scene and Penfolds have been blending Grenache with Shiraz since the 1950's. Recent years has seen a growing trend for the luscious perfumed styles like those emanating out of the northern Rhône and the Bin 138 produces a brilliant example. Old vine Grenache, Shiraz and Mataró combine in this Barossa red. Aromas of raspberry, dried herbs and floral notes introduce juicy berry flavours on the palate framed by fine tannins. [biodynamic]

Château Tanunda Chorus GSM has lifted aromas of blackberry, black cherry and raspberry area accompanied by spicy, dark berry fruits and white pepper on the palate. The finish is long with fine-grained tannins from two years' maturation in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak barrels. Although drinking well now the wine will benefit from medium-term cellaring.

Torbreck, a well-respected winery in South Australia. The Steading is a decadent blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, the three traditional Barossa varieties. Wonderful richness and bold fruit flavours packed in this bottle yet harmoniouslyýco-exist together. Well developed complexity on the palate, although great to enjoy now, it has great potentialýfor further long term cellar with the right conditions.ý

The Kennedy is a blend of old vine Barossa Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre. Its named in honour of the legendary Barossa vignerons who were instrumental in planting these old precious vineyards. Grenache from 50-year-old vines dominates the blend and all varieties are fermented separately at very warm temperatures for optimal extraction of colour, tannins and flavour. Kennedy is matured in seasoned French hogsheads and puncheons for up to 16 months.

The wines in Yalumbas Distinguished Sites collection, including the Vine Vale, capture the true essence of specific, special sites. In th glass: Pale garnet. On the nose: Raspberry, cranberry, white pepper & vanilla. On the palate: Silky & smooth with a charming mix of red fruit, subtle pepper & dried herb notes, fine, velvety tannins & mouth-feel. A lighter, almost Pinot-like style of Grenache.

Powell & Son Brennecke Seppeltsfield Barossa Valley Grenache Powell & Son (first vintage 2014) is the venture of Barossa Valley legend Dave Powell and his son Callum. This Grenache comes from organically-grown vines that date back to the early 1900s on a site in the north-western corner of the Seppeltsfield sub-district of the Barossa Valley. The Brennecke vineyards dry-grown, untrellised bush vines are anchored in heavy red clay over limestone subsoils. These factors translate to excellent palate structure and a firm tannin backbone in the finished wine. The wine is multi-layered with complex flavours red fruits, cedar, spices, hints of vanilla and cinnamon. The palate typically shows a sleek tannin profile supporting a red-fruited core of cherry and cranberry. Maturation in 100% new French oak barriques also makes a contribution. This is a powerful Grenache style with an opulent feel, ripe, fruit-sweet spice and a long finish. It is concentrated but typically has an appealing underlying freshness.

Youthful, mid-weight palate, bright spiced red cherry and ripe raspberry fruits on attack to turn to a slately, dried spice and cherry pit close. Precise and focussed, fine sandy tannins and bright acids deliver drive and finish.

Ruby garnet in colour. Bright, red cherry and raspberry fruit on the nose. Focused red berry flavours on the palate, juicy mid palate with pepper and spice notes. Generous fleshy fruit, supported by high quality French oak.
