Marqués de Riscal began with a dream back in 1858 and over 150 years later, the Bodega decided to commemorate the 150th Anniversary with a Gran Reserva Rioja that befitted the history and standing of such great wines. The result it this outstanding Tempranillo blend from the 2001 vintage, a truly special vintage in the Rioja region. Dark cherry in colour with complex aromas of balsamic, charred wood and layers of spices. The palate follows with a viscous mouthfeel with a good concentration of tannins and acid structure. Selection of plots located in our Viña Lanciano estate: El Espino (Graciano), Mantible Mazuelo (Mazuelo), El Encino (Tempranillo), Majuelo Chiquito (Tempranillo) and Los Almendros (Tempranillo). Winemaking and ageing. Hand harvested grapes. Each of the varieties were fermented separately in truncated-cone shaped stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation took place in Tronçais French oak barrels. Aged for 16 months in Tronçais oak barrels and matured for 8 months in concrete tanks. Aged in bottle for 22 months. Tasting notes. Colour: Very bright, ripe cherry red with a reddish rim. NOSE: Aromas of ripe red fruit with floral hints of violets, blended with notes of oak, such as spice, cinnamon and a touch of minerality. Mouth: Expressive and intense, very fruity and balsamic on the aftertaste, with a long-lasting, persistent finish. Pairing: Stews, spicy meat and fish dishes, meat carpaccios, smoked dishes and cured cheeses.

The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations took place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 22 months’ ageing in hybrid oak barrels (American oak staves and French oak heads) and 22 months’ refining in bottle. Tasting notes: Colour: Deep garnet-red with a ruby rim. Nose: Intense, with notes of ripe black fruit, figs and touches of dried fruit, mixed with intense spiced and smoky notes. Mouth: Harmoniously well-balanced, with polished tannins that lead to a long finish marked by the aromas of black fruit and spices. Pairing: Grilled meat and fish dishes, stews and game. Fantastic to accompany all kinds of cheeses.

Badiola is a winery in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Founded in 2018 by acquiring an existing winery, Badiola offers village and single vineyard wines that display the freshness, elegance and depth of flavours which distinguish Rioja Alavesa. Made from the highest quality, selected Tempranillo grapes from small, old hillside vineyard parcels (Parcelas) on limestone soils. The quality of the fruit shines and is beautifully balanced by fresh acidity. A serious lightly oaked wine that will benefit from two to three years cellaring.
