An aromatic, approachable wine that offers great versatility with a wide selection of cuisines, including grilled red meats, Italian sausage and antipasto. Aromas: An inviting nose that offers perfumed aromatics and pastry-like complexity. A note of lifted cherry danish, complete with a subtle hint of icing dusting. The sweetness continues with cannoli filled with creamy custard, while vanilla and almond slivers add a nutty, floral richness. Cranberry and forest fruits provide a vibrant core, highlighted by exotic spices like cardamom, cinnamon and thyme. Floral notes of hibiscus blend seamlessly with aromas of white strawberry and fresh plum, resulting in a nose that is both sweet and bright. Black/purple in colour, we have cassis and chocolate, warm earth and tobacco leaves, dry herbs and cloves. There is good early complexity, a creamy texture, impressive length and silky tannins. The balance is immaculate. Oak, but it is melding so well that it merely adds to the impression of a big, bold, wonderful red.

Powerful and concentrated with deep, dark fruit flavours, blackberry and plum, complemented by notes of chocolate, spice, and vanilla from oak aging. It is characterized by a full-bodied, opulent texture with silky, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex finish.

Made by Rockstar winemaker Ben Riggs, the McLaren Vale Shiraz is as true an expression as one could hope for. The fifth release of the wine is based around a core of pristine fruit with dark red berries, hints of spice, earth, tar and leather and with seamlessly integrated oak. Ripe tannins are apparent but not overwhelming, meaning this is a wine which can be enjoyed now or in the next 10-15 years.
