Clemens Hill was founded over 20 years ago in a remarkable setting within the bucolic Coal River Valley. The wines of Clemens Hill are and will always be, an expression of the whims of nature inexorably bound to the wisdom of winemaking. Indeed, the pursuit of a vinous expression of place takes precedence over the pursuit of accolades, but perhaps as a result of that philosophy, over time the wines have become festooned with prizes and accolades. Clemens Hill vineyard nestles into the north-east facing slopes of the ancient glacial carving that is the Coal River Valley. It sits just 75m above sea level and is cooled by maritime valley breezes while capturing the bright crystalline sun. It enjoys both shelter and exposure. Rainfall is a capricious 500mm per annum, so it is supplemented with irrigation in times of stress. Flinty minerality with hint of nougat, white peach and mouth-watering lime citrus on the nose. A punchy, powerful palate with delicious salty caramel richness right at the end. On the finish, the fruit powers through and the acid hits a crystal clean note.

Hailing from the Derwent Valley in Tasmania, the Simla Blanc Field Blend 2018 is a beautiful blend of chardonnay, riesling, and sauvignon blanc. It is a fresh and wild expression of the terroir. This wine has hints of lemongrass, textured grapefruit, river stone, quartzite, and white camellia flower. Domaine Simha was founded at the edge of the world by Nav Singh and Louise Radman. An avant-garde approach shapes living wine relying on ancient knowledge and intuition. Crafted by hand in micro batches, just 2-3 barrels of each Domaine Simha wine are made. The wines have no additions of yeast, acid or malolactic culture, and are in this sense natural wines which express the place and land on which they are grown, the vintage and the people.

The Berthier family have been winegrowers for five generations, with Clement and Florian taking over the reins in 2012 to continue the family tradition. Clement is responsible for winemaking and sales, while Florian is focused on the vineyards. The terroir of this Pouilly Fume is unique in that it is composed of marl with a high proportion of fossilised oyster shells. This 100% Sauvignon Blanc opens up with aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, and delicate notes of oyster shell and seaspray. The palate is bright and lively, with a roundness and gentle richness on the palate.
