Pale straw with green hues. A delicate, bouquet of lime and tropical fruits, with hints of green apple, citrus blossom and talc. Fresh and lively, lime and Granny Smith apples tantalise the taste buds, with a zingy, zesty mouth feel and great balance. The site where the Langmeil winery now sits was originally settled by Blacksmith Christian Auricht way back in 1842. Christian went on to establish a bakery, smithy, a butcher's shop and a cobbler as well as planting a 1 hectare vineyard on the estate. This vineyard, still in use today, has been called the Freedom 1843 block and is believed to be one of the oldest Shiraz vineyards in the world. Flash forward 160+ years and the Langmeil winery and vineyard is back in family hands, with Carl Lindner, Richard Lindner and Chris Bitter now owning this historic Barossan estate. Like many Barossan estates with a bent for traditional full bodied reds, Langmeil prefers open fermenters and basket presses, utilising these fabulously archaic methods for over half its grape intake of approximately 1000 tonnes. In a similar vein, the wines are only minimally handled and minimally filtered before bottling in an attempt to preserve natural flavour and complexity.

2018 Blue Rock Wines, Eden Valley, Riesling This Riesling displays an intense citrus flower and tropical fruit bouquet. The flavours of ripe limes, lemon zest and a hint of green apple are apparent on the palate. The palate is soft and clean with a crisp acid finish and distinct minerality characteristic of Eden Valley Rieslings.

The grapes were hand picked and whole bunch pressed releasing the delicate flavours. The wine is bursting with tropical fruit, passionfruit, pineapple and fresh citrus and melon aromas and flavours. The palate is complex yet delicate with good weight and length. The wine has residual sweetness and a refreshing crisp acid finish which is well suited to most seafood and chicken dishes.

Shows great length and depth with concentrated power, pristine fresh lime juice overlaid with toasted brioche, sage oil and lime marmalade. The wine finishes with fresh, soft natural acidity. Pewsey Vale is synonymous with Riesling, and this historic hillside vineyard that rules the Eden Valley in South Australia is world-famous for the distinct style it produces. Originally established in 1847 by Joseph Gilbert, it was purchased by Samuel Smith (now Hill-Smith of Yalumba) in 1961. The vineyard sits 250 metres above the Barossa Valley floor. The resultant cooler temperatures encourage a longer ripening period that is essential for producing superior Riesling grapes. Made by renowned winemaker Louisa Rose, the Rieslings of Pewsey Vale have a distinct lime character together with florals and a touch of spice. When young they are vibrant and tight with upright acidity. As the wines age, they gain complexity with honeyed tones, but they are very long-lived, so patience is a must!

The 2020 Springton Riesling was carefully blended from 3 different blocks within the Avon Brae vineyard. (56% Block 11, 26% Block 10, 19% Block 8) It is bright pale straw and shows tropical fruits and rose petal on the nose. The palate is broad and full with lime over a long line of lemon. An enticing Eden Valley Riesling drinking well now but built to last.

With shallow, mineral-rich soils as indicated by rocky outcrops and scattered “Fieldstones”, the Zieglers identified the Eden Valley as an ideal location to grow elegant Riesling. Aromatic with bright citrus and honeysuckle flavours, natural acidity and a crisp, dry finish.

Bright lime zest, green apple, and subtle white florals lead the bouquet, with a delicate whisper of musk and wet stone. The palate is generously textured yet cut with fine, chalk‑like acidity, delivering citrus and orchard fruit flavours that finish dry and mineral‑etched. A refined, vibrant Riesling — stylish now and built to age.

Langtons is proud to be first to market with the inaugural vintage of this Riesling, a selection from a very special part of the famous Contours vineyard. When it comes to Eden Valley Riesling, no name is greater than the Langtons Classified Contours Riesling from Pewsey Vale. The Contours vineyard was first planted in 1841, but the distinctive site we know today -- with vines planted along the contours of an Eden Valley hillside rather than in straight rows -- dates from the 1960s. From 1961 in fact, and this new wine comes from a single block of the oldest vines, planted in that year on a north-facing slope. The Contours Riesling is released with five years of bottle age. This new wine -- although almost equally ageworthy -- is a more approachable style and therefore suitable for release (like most other Rieslings) in the year following vintage. For many (or most) the 1961 Block Riesling will be indistinguishable from The Contours. The value here is obvious.
