Restrained barrel-derived cinnamon and subtle struck-flint aromatics allude to the purity and intensity of this wine. Seamlessly structured, this single vineyard wine shows the distinctive features of the high altitude Johansen vineyard. After 18 months in the bottle, a backbone of citrus and refined texture leads to a long refreshing finish. A wine of both purity and power with intense length and flavour.
McWilliams 1877 Chardonnay
The wine shows vibrant youthful pale gold colour. The aroma is filled with white nectarine and popcorn notes. The palate explodes with a creamy texture of white peach and nectarine balanced by acidity with hints of butterscotch, nougat and almond flavours. Pair with fresh or grilled Australian tiger prawns or any other seafood dishes. Chardonnay is also a great match to white meat based dishes. Smashing drop!The fruit comes from Tumbarumba. Nick has made Chardonnay from this region for a decade now, he believes that the vintage has produced some of the best fruit he has seen. This doesn't have the flashy oak and sulphide aspects which often characterised his critically acclaimed Chardonnays at Eden Road, this is a gentler, more streamlined version of the variety which showcases the purity of fruit from this cool nsw region.
