For John Hughes, the attraction to Riesling is all encompassing. Growing up on a small vineyard in the Clare Valley, and going on to work with some of the brightest Riesling makers in the country before launching his own venture, John is never far away from his beloved grape. John makes classic Australian styles from carefully selected vineyards with an emphasis on purity and site reflection, as well as German-inspired expressions that balance acidity and sugar with singular precision.

With shallow, mineral-rich soils as indicated by rocky outcrops and scattered “Fieldstones”, the Zieglers identified the Eden Valley as an ideal location to grow elegant Riesling. Aromatic with bright citrus and honeysuckle flavours, natural acidity and a crisp, dry finish.

Each year we make a Reserve Riesling from the very best parcel of fruit out of one of our four Riesling blocks. For the fourth year in a row Block 7 was the stand out. Pale straw with a perfumed nose of rose petal and jasmine. Lime over zesty lemon on the palate with an acid backbone that delivers a long steely finish. A linear, austere Eden Valley Riesling of class. Drink now, but built to last.

Irvine's Spring Hill range is always good value – this aromatic Pinot Gris from the Eden Valley a perfect example – and it boasts many high scores up to 95pts. i>"It’s delightfully fruited and elegantly expressed on the nose, presenting Gala apple, Asian pear, fig, and lemon peel aromas. The wine has a mild salmon pink colour which will develop further with time. It shows delicate aromatics of jasmine blossom and ripe melon with a dry palate that has abundant textural flavours of ripe apples and pear. The distinct citrus backbone will ensure the wine rewards aging for at least 5 years.
