The fruit for crafting Reach for the Sky Shiraz was sourced from the 35 year old grapevines planted in the estates vineyards. The grapes were left on skins, gently pumped, and then fermented in stainless steel, prior to maturation in French oak barriques. This beautiful Shiraz from Kaesler Wines features a bright purple red colour with deep red hues. The fragrant nose exudes scintillating aromas of blackberries, enhanced by an earthy edge. A sip of the wine reveals fresh and intense flavours of dark fruits and blackberries, accompanied by subtle notes of chocolate, boysenberry and charcoal. This superb single-vineyard Shiraz is sourced from a six-acre plot that was replanted in 2001. Sadly, the original 1912 vineyard was ripped out in the mid-1980s thanks to the SA governments now-notorious vine pull scheme. Here in the Moppa sub-region the grapes grow on sandier soils than in Greenock (a mere 2km away as the crow flies) producing more perfumed wines with finer tannins. This release is no exception. The fruit was harvested on the 22nd of February and was 100% de-stemmed. The whole berries were sent to small open-top fermenters, and were hand-plunged three times per day. After 18 days on skins the wine was basket pressed into barrel. The wine rested for 20 months in French (25% new) and American hogsheads.

Reserve Black Velvet Shiraz 2015 This is a perfect blend of red and white grape varieties developed in the Cotes du Rhone district in Southern France. It is made possible due to both varieties maturing at the same time. They are crushed and fermented together to merge the flavours of these two noble varieties. Usually 3-5% Viognier is ample to introduce the floral aromas and contribute to the wines softness in the mouth. This wine has retained the Shiraz characters of cherry and raspberry with Viognier adding the floral aromas and slipperiness in the mouth.
