Thorpe & Smart Shiraz is a celebration of individuality, history and regionality from Yangarras estate vineyard in McLaren Vale. This wine pays homage to the prominent pioneering families of the region to be a true local you must either be a Thorpe or a Smart. The elevated blocks, with their variations of ancient soils and cool air flowing down from the nearby ranges, produce an elegant Shiraz with finesse. While full flavoured, there is intrigue of perfume, bright primary fruit, and soft silky tannins, pairing well with roasted red meat and aromatic spices.

An aromatic nose of blueberries, dark cherry fruits, floral and spice notes. Medium to full bodied, blueberry, plum and dark cherry fruits burst onto the palate. Vibrant fruit combines with notes of red flowers, cacao and layers of cooking spice. The hallmark sandy/biscuity tannins of Blewitt Spring linger on the palate.

This is the epitome of exuberant McLaren Vale fruit in a big way. ALL the plum, black and red berries, a lick of silky licorice and a dab of molten chocolate. It’s always pleasing when wines from this producer land at the doorstep - a little smile of recognition is bound to pass your lips. Stephen Pannell grew up in the wine industry as a member of the family which founded Moss Wood in 1967. Stephen's extensive knowledge and experience has been garnered over the years from his work with many of Australia's best wineries (including Wirra Wirra, Hardy's Tintara and BRL Hardy where he was Chief Red Winemaker from 1999 to 2003) and numerous vintages overseas at such places as Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Burgundy, Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and G.D.Vajra in Barolo. Other highlights in Stephen's career include winning the title of International Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London, winning the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show, twice winning the Max Schubert Trophy at the Adelaide Wine Show as well as being listed as one of the 50 most influential contributors to the world of wine by Decanter Magazine.

Re-tasted on 07/06/2022 Magnificent colour displaying a pitch black core with a very deep black dark red hue. Pronounced black cherry, liquorice and black plum aromas are overlaid by scorched earth and smoked meats followed by spicy vanillin cedar and pepper notes. Tightly built rich black cherry and liquorice flavours dominate over inky earth, lightly scorched vanillin cedar, dried meats and blackpepper. Dry grippy finish with tightly grained tannins. Rich yet elegant and muscular in its feel. Good underlying power with a long black cherry, liquorice, smoky vanillin cedar, dried meats and earthy pepper aftertaste. Cellar 8-10 years. Alc. 14.5%

Price’s Block 3 is the embodiment of our winemaking philosophy, produced from old vines thriving in the unique soils of our best Shiraz block at McLaren Vale. It is beautifully ripe and immensely appealing on the nose showing blackberry, plum, thyme and spicy oak characters with a hint of gamey complexity. The palate delivers a wonderfully rounded mouthfeel and supple texture backed by polished tannins, leading to a gorgeously long velvety finish.

Hand picked. 7 days on skins. 24 months of maturation in 1st- and 2nd-use French oak. The flavours is still in Blewitt Springs heartland. Dark plum, black cherry, blue berry, Asian herb, baking spice, anise, chocolate, toast oak and fresh acidity. Complex, rich, round and slickly made.

A tight and complex bouquet of dried plum, fresh almond, blood plum, smoked meats, concentrated cherry, blueberry preserve, ginger, glazed prune and clove. In all pretty it’s thrilling, what greets you on the palate flows through to the palate, with a band of deep but amazingly light fruits, an ironstone searing penetration builds up and then slowly flows away, the fruit depth here is admiral and the balance is so pure that this will age quite effortlessly for an extended time.

Shiraz Grenache blend sourced from 65 year old shiraz vines and 95 year old bush vine Grenache. Brimming with blue and red fruits this wine has amazing weight and complexity and structure that will see it age well into the 2030s. Don't wait until then, decant to enjoy now.
