Ravensworth co-founder and winemaker Bryan Martin has been Tim Kirks righthand man at Clonakilla since 2004. He even makes his wines at the Clonakilla winery. But the fruit is all Ravensworth. ...'made from fruit grown our way.'- Bryan Martin Bryan Martins approach in the vineyard to encourage the health of the soil and diversity of the plant life. The wine is edgier than its Clonakilla equivalent but theres no mistaking the Rhône-inspired red-fruited, spicy, aromatic and floral style of Murrumbateman SV. It is one of the most desirable and sought-after wines from the region.

Pinot Noir 60%, Sangiovese 28%, Shiraz 12% All the individual varieties were fermented separately in small 2 tonne parcels. The fruit was 100% destemmed and pressed after 18 days on skins. The Pinot Noir and Sangiovese were blended together immediately after pressing and the Shiraz shortly after to ensure a longer period of time for the varieties to integrate. A mixture of cherries and red berries with a hint of spice and wet leaves. There is some creamy spiced oak notes and a soft clean tannin with a nice orange oil finish.

Allinda is a tiny Yarra Valley estate, and you won't find their wines in too many places, because the quantities are so small. But when you do find them, make sure you stock up, because they are really wonderful. This sumptuous Syrah really impresses with medium to full bodied intense ripe flavour and natural acidity. Ripeness of fruit in the warmish 2016 February has lifted the flavour profile into the mulberry and plum zone so expect less white pepper than other Yarra Valley Syrahs. Allinda has kept it simple with healthy soils, healthy vines, some of the better old school practices, a dash of modern technique and a whole lotta good old winemaking sense.
