Z-Force is named in tribute to the Z Special Force, which was a special Australian Army unit created in World War Two to operate behind enemy lines. Z-Force’s members were from many countries and specialised in unique guerrilla warfare. Although disbanded after the war, Z-Force pioneered numerous operational techniques and tactics, many as daring as they were brilliant, that remain a model to this day. The surviving members of Z Special Unit last marched together on Anzac Day in Sydney 2010. The extraordinary bravery of their unit and its lost brothers are honoured in this wine, which is Zonte’s Footstep finest. A much-loved South Aussie red, this blended red is rich in black fruits that fill the mouth. Raspberry, red currant and plum fruits are balanced with fine sandy tannins and cedar oak. This medium to full bodied wine has a lovely balance and style in true Church Block character. Church Block was the first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (Est 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirras century old ironstone cellars. All individually numbered, with proceeds from the sale of the 3,030 bottles donated to Les Burdett’s charity of choice – Variety, the Children’s Charity. Tasting Notes Aroma The nose is rich and opulent with complex blackberry and liquorice aromas. A hint of sweet nutty spice complements the fresh fruit. Palate A bright black fruit palate with supporting French oak and layers of sweet spice and chocolate. Complex and alluring tannins give structure and elegance with bright natural acidity providing a mouth-watering and moreish finish.

The Old Vine Syrah patch was planted in the 1930s and is on a slope of the property with a westerly aspect. These old gnarly vines are planted in heavily decomposed ironstone and quartz. The style of wine is completely individual and the winemaking team always comment on how light the style is and how exotic the spices are in this vineyard. The spices come across like incense mixed with deeply aromatic and smoky lapsang oolong tea. Exotic characters such as sandalwood, cocoa powder, sarsaparilla and cola elements top the roast meat and flinty, strawberry and cream palette of this wine. The lighter frame on this style is highly attractive and the intoxicating spices combine to create something highly exotic.

Tasting Notes Aroma Dense, classic Shiraz characters of fresh blackberry, boysenberry and aniseed mesh seamlessly with dried spice and elegant French oak. Palate Concentrated and generous with dark fruits and black cherry, the old vines contribute complex spices, cinnamon and nutmeg. A full bodied, luscious and elegant wine that is perfectly balanced by fine grain tannins and lingering structural finish.
