Established in 1893, Leasingham was a founding winery of the Clare Valley, crafting wine for nearly 120 years. Located in High Eden, a sub-region of the Barossa, approximately 550 metres above sea level, Mountadam was originally established in 1972 by the late David Wynn for his winemaking son Adam. Since 2005, it has returned to being a family owned and run winery, with David and Jenni Brown overseeing its success. The wine is named after David’s father, Milton Brown. Traditionally known as the best Cabernet or Cabernet blend from the Estate the 2021 vintage saw this wine as a straight Cabernet Sauvignon due to the high quality of a single block. “Deep crimson and packed with bramble-edged blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry fruits. Hints of brown spice, violets, briar, licorice, cedar, sage and vanilla bean. There's a lovely density with great tension between that High Eden mineral line and the ripe black fruits with fine, granite-dust tannins... that fruit weight is impressive. 95pts. Relish the 93pt flagship Shiraz from high altitude Eden fruit. As Dave Brookes in The Halliday Wine Companion writes, it boasts: "… aromas of pure red and dark cherry, blackberry and Doris plum fruits with hints of mixed spice, sage, peppercorn, roast meats, licorice, crushed stone, violets, dark chocolate and cold tea. There is a savoury lean on the palate, but that fruit is juicy and pure, showing itself with clarity and detail. Fine-grained tannins, too…" The ‘Walter’ (formerly known as the ‘Patriarch’) has always been Mountadams flagship Shiraz, recognising the Patriarch and founder of Mountadam, David Wynn. The wine is named after Jennis’s father, Walter Small. Traditionally known as the best Shiraz from the Estate the 2022 vintage saw this wine sourced from the oldest plantings on the estate in Block 12 and Block 40, located in High Eden, a sub-region of the Barossa, approximately 550 metres above sea level. Soils are 500 million years old and although it’s an inhospitable place to grow vines, fruit quality is exceptional.

Woodlands Chardonnay has an attractive nose of grapefruit enhanced by some oak characters. A wine of some finesse with the elements of fruit, oak and acid coming together to produce a wine of exceptional balance and length.

Every so often there are parcels of wine that generate tremendous excitement amongst the winemakers at Schild Estate. They set this aside to make Prämie, the wine that defines the best of the vintage and the land on which it was grown. Intense primary fresh plum flavours show again on the palate, where they hold their presence all the way through to roll out soft and pillowy at the finish. A firmly present, but fine tannin framework provides just enough focus and lift for the fruit to ensure added complexity, but retaining vibrancy to the mouth flavours of this Shiraz.

The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been wine-growers in southern Rheinhessen since 1663. Since 1990, the family has cultivated the vineyards according to controlled ecological guidelines, and since 2004, bio-dynamically. This Riesling has a fine aroma of yellow fruits and apple, clear, elegant structure and juicy freshness. Dry with a juicy acidity which harmonises with the typical earthy mineral tones; great finish.

The cooler climate of Tasmania has helped to produce a wonderful Riesling; full of flavour and acid. Given these characters are in abundance, this wine should cellar for decades.

A fine and quite flinty modern expression of Margaret River Chardonnay. Finer and leaner it might be in some ways, but the unmistakable power and persistence of the region still triumphs. Complex mealy grapefruit and roasted nut characters on the nose, and a deep and richly intense palate power through to the finish.
