Domaine Asmara The Lady Killer Late Harvest Shiraz is not fortified and it is a rich distinctive style. It would be a great match for after dinner cheese plater.

A complex and attractive mix of dark and blue fruits with earthy undertones. Blood plums and black currants, liquorice and spice. A hint of truffles and oak in the mix. Medium bodied, fleshy and supple, the palate is textured and layered. Plum, aniseed and spice follow from the nose and the wine has lovely depth without being overbearing. Ripe, fine tannins and good length with dark fruits and a hint of oak.

This wine is vibrant, perfumed Grenache with classic raspberry, musk and earthy notes. Serve lightly chilled. McLaren Vale is Australias foremost region for Grenache, where it was historically largely used for fortified wines and as a workhorse blending variety, frequently with Shiraz and Mourvedre/Mataro. Full-bodied examples rival Australias greatest Shiraz wines and this particular style, which highlights the varietys inherent deep red fruit characters, is fast gaining in popularity. While the wine is naturally fermenting in the foudre we introduce Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay & Pinot Noir juice at different stages as a way of increasing the natural silky mouth feel while maintaining fruit vibrancy.

Youthful, mid-weight palate, bright spiced red cherry and ripe raspberry fruits on attack to turn to a slately, dried spice and cherry pit close. Precise and focussed, fine sandy tannins and bright acids deliver drive and finish.

The 2021 Estate Grown Shiraz is a blend from Tyrrell's Short Flat, Weinkeller, and NVC Vineyards. These dry grown blocks were planted in 1968, 1970 and 1996. These three blocks produce a modern style of Shiraz that has both richness and approachability and pays homage to the classic Hunter River Burgundies (HRB) of the mid-twentieth century.
