Michele Chiarlo Asili
Michele Chiarlo Asili Barbaresco DOCG Michele Chiarlo sources its Nebbiolo for this cuvée front the 1ha Asili vineyard which sits at 250m asl on blue-grey calcareous marl having with a small presence of clay. The site is marginal, poor in organic matter, but rich in elements such as magnesium and calcium. Elegant and ethereal (the winery describes these aspects as aristocratic), there is typical notes of violet, red fruits and fine spices on the nose while the lengthy palate is complex and silky. Asili is a prestigious and historic Added Geographical Indication of the Barbaresco Docg, a designation which has made vinification possible in only four municipal districts in Langhe: Alba, Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso.

Ca'rome Romano Marengo Maria di Brun
Ca' Rome' Romano Marengo Maria di Brun Barbaresco DOCG Garnet red in the glass, the nose is complex and ample showing aromas of violet and underbrush. Full, velvety and very balanced. Because of its structure and body, it pairs well with meat, game and cheese. The Rio Sordo vineyard is located in the Barbaresco municipality. The soils are known as white marl of Saint Agatha and go back to the Tortonian-Messinian period. Maceration lasts 20 days using a traditional method of maceration called steccatura at a temperature that never exceeds 30°C. This method involves wedging stocks into the vat to hold the cap (grape skins and pulp) down below the surface of the juice. This slow, gentle extractraction coaxes the signature tannins from the Nebbiolo grape skins. Aged for 30 months in 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels with a portion of it part aged in barrique. The wine is further aged in-bottle for at least 12 months.
Sottimano Cotta Barbaresco
Situated between Neive and the town of Barbaresco itself, Cotta beautifully combines the rich, fuller-bodied nature of Neive, with the tannic structure of Barbaresco. With a south-west exposure, it is usally the richest and roundest of the Sottimano crus, typically showing abundant red and black fruits with refined nuances of mint, leading to a palate of notable length. The tannins are there, but beautifully expressive and silky. A benchmark Barbaresco with a 15-20 year cellar life.

Arrivo Lunga Macerazione Nebbiolo
While the establishment date of Arrivo is 1998, when Peter Godden and partner Sally McGill established a nursery block of 35 vines of nebbiolo, the inspiration goes back to 1995 and '96, when Peter spent much time in Barolo, Italy, working the '96 vintage at leading producer Vietti. Now with plantings of around 1 hectare of nebbiolo, Peter uses a unique trellis and training system derived from Barolo, but with an Australian twist. Not only is the trellis complicated and unique, but so are the amazingly complicated fermentation techniques being used. The resulting wines are a benchmark for Australian nebbiolo.
