he ‘ol boy has done it again. Despite a difficult start to the season, Dad made some very astute calls in the vineyard during spring which meant we were able to take advantage of perfect conditions during the summer and autumn. This meant our fruit arrived at our winemaker’s with full flavour development and balance of acid and tannins. Our trademark blueberry, spice and eucalyptus are on show. This wine will see improvement up to and beyond 10 years in the cellar.

The dark crimson hued Mitchell Sevenhill Cabernet Sauvignon exudes classic Clare Valley characteristics and flavours. The nose is strong with berry aromas as well as hints of dusty new French oak scents. This is an elegant, powerful and full flavoured wine with firm tannins that could develop even more after 5 to 10 years of cellaring. It is a wonderful accompaniment to beef and venison.

The nose is fruit focused with ripe red berry, raspberry, strawberry and a herbal note of violet. The palate is right on point, with a medium body of stewed fruit on the palate with black peppers followed by fine tannins and acid structures which delivers palate length and ageability. Owen and Cassandra Inglis purchased the boutique property in 2004 and immediately set about making their vision become a reality. Their Sidewood Shiraz displays that vision to perfection. Attention to detail is the key here which enables flavours of red cherry, currants and dark plum to shine through along with hints of cinnamon and spice. The texture is beguiling and gives promise to a wine that will age for up to a decade.
