Suntory Hibiki 17 Years Old Blended Japanese Whisky

Apart from Single Malts, Suntory also produces a premium series of blended whiskies under the label 'Hibiki' (meaning 'harmony'), usually containing a high proportion of Single Malt (upwards of 50% according to one of the company's blenders).Created in 1989, the Hibiki 17 Years Old whisky is a meticulous blend of over thirty of the finest single malts from Suntory's two distilleries, Yamazaki and Hakushu, and grain whisky from their Chita distillery, most with an age of well over 17 years matured in Japanese mizunara oak casks at Yamazaki.Suntory artisans perfect this harmonious blend to create a full symphony of delicate flavours and blossoming aromas while the design of the bottle symbolises the 24 seasons of the Japanese lunar calendar.Hibiki 17 has been awarded multiple gold awards at the International Spirits Challenge. The judges described it as being Elegant, sweet and complex. In 2018, Suntory Whisky announced the Hibiki 17 Years Old would be discontinued making this scarce bottle a rare collector's item of enchanting value. Obvious collector appeal here, but we'd like to imagine this one being appreciated for what's inside the bottle. No gift box.Nose: Sweet, caramalised nuts, some lemon acidity, blackcurrants and pears with vanilla, dark toffee and rich sherry spice.Palate: Oak, dark cherry and sweet caramel notes, buttery with a wisp of smoke and some wood spice.Finish: Long, with a hint of smoke.

The pinnacle of Suntory plum liqueur, Umeshu Rich Amber is after-ripened in toasted Yamazaki whisky casks then blended with grain whisky and a highly fragrant malt whisky rich with aroma and an opulent aftertaste. Highly recommended having straight to fully experience the divine aroma originating from malt whisky, the long lingering finish and richness of grain whisky, and the savoury flavour of roasted barrels. Suntory Yamazaki Limited Edition Single Malt Whisky

Every year, Suntory releases a new limited edition of their Yamazaki, and in 2016, they gave us another masterpiece. No information on the number of bottles available was unveiled by Suntory for the 2016 version, however, it is bottled at 43% ABV and comprises a combination of young single malts, matured in American oak casks, Bourbon barrels, European oak barrels, Sherry, and Port Wine casks, with some of it having been aged over 20 years.

Yamazaki Limited Edition Single Malt Whisky

An annual limited edition from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery, this non-age statement expression is crafted with various different cask types and vintages to create a highly sought-after release. The makeup consists of whisky that has been aged for 20 years in ex European oak that previously housed red wine, whisky that has been aged for 20 years in Port barrels and the body stemming from a younger ex bourbon cask whisky. These three elements are married perfectly to create as malt with unparallel complexity, and after Yamazaki took out the best whisky in the world you know this won’t stick around.
