Shanteh Wale finds it: “Excellent value for a sparkling wine… 92pts” while Jeni Port calls it a: “Nicely executed sparkling from Australia’s premier sparkling wine region [the Coal River Valley]… Impressive.” Expect “Aromas of spice-baked apples and peachy fruit with hints of crème brûlée, crushed oyster shell, white flowers, mushroom broth, freshly baked brioche, apple turnover… 91pts” (Halliday).

The home of Semillon in Australia is unquestionably the Hunter Valley and Briar Ridge produce a Semillon that has lovely pale straw hues with crisp lemon on the nose and brilliant lime zest on the palate.

Enjoy a savoury-style Yarra Valley Pinot from the Hirsch family estate, with scores of 91, 92 & 93pts. Sam Kim, Wine Orbit finds it: "“Beautifully fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows ripe cherry, thyme, game, and nutmeg aromas, followed by a juicy palate offering fine texture backed by polished tannins, finishing long and pleasingly dry. 93pts” Ken Gargett, WinePilot enjoys its: "Attractive fragrances, but it is obvious we have taken the savoury road here. Dry herbs, mushrooms, forest floor notes, cherries, animal skins and beef stock hints are all present. There is juicy acidity, sleek tannins and medium length with the intensity maintained throughout. Those who appreciate the savouriness of Pinot will love this." Steve Leszczynski in Qwine Review writes that it’s: “A gorgeous drink… fabulous…that oozes food-friendly appeal … a most impressive blend. 93pts.” Craig Stansborough and Mark Slade started Purple Hands in southern Barossa in 2006, from humble beginnings, making just 100 dozen the first vintage. Enjoy a "…delicious Barossa GSM… It is plush, silky, opulent and generous – what is not to like about that!" says Ken Gargett, WinePilot. "The flavours weave through chocolate, coffee beans, dry herbs, cassis and blackberries. The supple texture and seamless structure provide a solid base for a really likeable red blend and we see more chocolate emerging on the palate. A wine with impressive length, this will drink beautifully for at least the next ten to twelve years. 94pts." Ray Jordan, also writing in WinePilot agrees: "“A plush and generous blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre. Seductive floral perfumes of rose petal and stewed plum. The palate is a polished combination of supple fruit, fine chalky tannins and a gentle touch of oak. Displays an earthy red fruit flavour combo with a little dried herb and sage-like character on a palate that is medium weight and harmonious. 93pts.” (Ray Jordan) It boasts several high scores up to 95pts.

JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX BORDEAUX rouge was inspired by the founders early mission: when Jean-Pierre Moueix launched his wine merchant business in 1937, he sought to offer eminently drinkable and enjoyable wines that reflect a sense of place. Personally selected by Christian and Edouard Moueix, the Merlot grape offers depth and complexity, while Cabernet Franc brings structure and spice to the blend. Combined, these varietals produce wines of character and body while maintaining a unique suppleness. The wine shows ruby red with an intense, complex nose presenting notes of cherry, strawberry and blond tobacco. The palate is powerful and inviting with smooth, silky tannins.

Winemaker Steve Grimley knows how to tell a good story. He's famous for his long yarns! And if we're lucky, one day he will sit down and tell us all about this cracking Pinot Noir. In the meantime, the incredible intensity and lavish fruit richness will have to suffice. With or without the story, this is amazing stuff!

Warramunda Estate's Merlot 2021 using fruit from vines planted in 2015 from their Coldstream Vineyard is, as Philip Rich writes in The Halliday Wine Companion: "An impressive merlot from such young vines, this opens with aromas of damson plum, blackcurrants, lifted florals and just a hint of cedar. Medium bodied with persistent, even tannins, this elegant wine can be enjoyed now and over the next five to seven years at least. 93pts.” Sam Kim Wine Orbit loves its "…beautifully rounded palate offering fine texture and grainy tannins.93pts" and Jeni Port, WinePilot agrees and encourages people to try it: "“Yes, it’s Merlot. Yes, it’s flying solo without a safety net (aka Cabernet). Try and cast the usual Australian drinker concerns about the grape aside and give it a go. The winemaker clearly has confidence, you should, too. You won’t be disappointed. It’s a beaut, medium in body with plenty of elegance and aromatic energy. Typical Yarra Valley plushness here brings a lovely depth of flavour highlighting rose, raspberry, black cherry, gentle vanillin oak spice with a touch of leafiness. Beautifully composed with fine tannins in total unison. Love the sprig of dried herbs, pepper and anise on the finish that keeps things rolling on. 93pts” The Magdziarz family bought Warramunda in 2027 and have built themselves a solid reputation using biodynamic viticulture – with a deep respect for the surrounding landscape and a vision for terroir-driven wines, now made by daughter Olivia Zak-Magdziarz.
