Peter Seppelt is a fifth-generation Barossa winemaker whose family started making wine back in 1851. Based at Grand Cru Estate, an 1889 homestead in the south-east corner of the Barossa that is a mixture of farm, cellar door and luxury accommodation, Peter makes a variety of wines from Barossa Valley, Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills fruit. He has been making Eden Valley Riesling since 1982 and it shows in this classic example. Plenty of green apples, some lime peel and refreshing natural acidity.

Stoney River Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

As is typical with young Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, this wine is almost water white in the glass. It shows its Awatere Valley roots with whiffs of boxwood and tomato leaf, but these are backed by delightful ripe nectarine notes. On the palate it has all of the juiciness one would expect from a youthful Sauvignon Blanc and this is backed up by a finish that lasts and lasts. Phenolics are well managed and overall this is a vigorous and appealing young wine.
