Spotlight Durif
Curtis Martins McLaren Vale Shiraz
Grant Nash McLaren Vale Mouvedre Grenache Shiraz
Grant Nash is a name coined by an autocorrect of the word Grenache. A group of like-minded Grenache fans produce the wines, largely from McLaren Vale sites and they are very good. Ironically this blend with Shiraz and Mourvedre – puts Mourvedre into ascendancy. "... a mixed spice nose of clove, pepper and other brown spices, the palate full-bodied and deep with good tannin structure and a touch of firmness. The fruit does the talking but it's far from simplistic. The Mourvèdre shows through and it has ageing potential.” (Huon Hooke, The Real Review).
Bird On a Wire Yarra Valley Marsanne
Caroline Mooney specialises in small batch Single Vineyard releases from carefully selected sites. This 2017 has scores of 93 and 91pts. Philip Rich calls it "varietally correct" complimenting its " Apricot kernel, honeysuckle and a gentle beeswax". It is quite rich and will aprtner salmon or simmilarly slightly fattier fish splendidly.
Woodvale Sharegarden Clare Valley Shiraz
Purple Duck Cabernet Sauvignon
We have known and worked with Sam Trimboli for decades, during which time he's made many of our biggest selling wines, and he's notched up a huge stack of medals for them too. Sam has loved ducks since he was a boy. His first pet was a little duck he led around on a leash like a puppy. He loves the symbolism of the duck: ducks are flexible (they swim, fly and walk), they’re loyal and love family (think mother ducks and their ducklings) and they’re very adaptable. He named his 'signature' Durif The Black Duck, and has so far added a White Duck and a Pink Duck to the rabge, making this Purple Duck the fourth member of a very popular family. We thinks it's going to prove itself a mighty duck indeed!
Castillo Labastida Tempranillo Rioja
Bleasdale Langhorne Creek Cabernet Franc
Whistler Divergent Barossa Valley S.G.M
This "funky red blend of Shiraz (48%), Grenache (42%) and Mataro (10%)... is Juicy and bouncy with a real meaty, rusty, medina-spicy edge that is very appealing indeed. 93pts.” (Dave Brookes, The Halliday Wine Companion). Whistler Wines is owned by the Pfeiffer family, with brothers Martin and Chris at the helm. (Martin had run the Penfolds vineyards back in the 1980s). The next generation, brothers Josh and Sam Pfeiffer, joined them in 2013, introducing new wine styles and a drive towards sustainabilty.
