Sinewy but with salinity and plush red and black fruits, this finishes with a twist of salinity that gives a mouthwatering finale. This is a beautiful Virginie de Valandraud, the best that I have tasted to date. It's just so drinkable, this is one to savour and share with friends. Colour and Condition: Deep brick red hue; bright condition. Nose: A really youthful appeal, with an immediate impression of dark fruit aromas black berries, mulberries and black currants. A second viewing shows the beginnings Merlots darker side, with tar, leather and earth just starting to add complexity into the background. Palate: The classic Merlot palate, with rich, dark berry flavours like black jubes filling the front and mid palate. Firm tannin then takes over and gives the wine a linear, astringent but not too aggressive finish, which is juicy and concentrated.

Bright and medium depth in colour with a crimson red hue. There are aromas of plums, roses, blueberries and spice with a touch of cedar. The palate has impressive supple texture, it opens with jujube fruit transitioning to a silky linear tannin and plum middle palate.The wine finishes refreshingly bright and lingers long after the last sip. This is a wine to cellar for ten years and will be drinking at its best in five years. Enjoy with roast chicken or contemplate over a vintaged cheddar.

Lively nose. Cherries, stewed plum, fennel, fig. Palate is relatively light-bodied, with good acid, nice texture and spice. Sits well on the finish.

The K Block Merlot comes from a single vineyard. Savoury spice and plum flavours reward the drinker with a fuller body than most Yarra Valley red wines. Beautifully structured and balanced, this is a stunning example of a much-maligned grape. 2015 was an excellent vintage in the Yarra Valley. Ideal conditions persisted throughout the growing season, with temperatures hovering in the mid to high twenties from veraison to harvest. Cool nights and mild days gave perfect ripening conditions, with the fruit in perfect condition at harvest. A long north-west facing block with clay loam soils. The block has long produced grapes with subtle flavours and firm structure which is well suited to this clone of Merlot and the preferred style for TarraWarra Estate. Fermented in French Oak foudre (4000L) and matured over 18 months in French Oak puncheon (500L) and barrique (225L) (20% new barriques).
