Pinot Gris & Grigio

White Duck Chardonnay Pinot Grigio

Many of you will remember Sam Trimboli from his days at Warburn Estate where, every vintage, he’d pick up literally hundreds of awards. He’s still on a winning streak, but now he’s renting space all for himself at a winery in Riverina, New South Wales. Sam makes there the mighty Black Duck, and his white version – the equally fruity and irresistible White Duck. Sam has been in the region for many years, so knows exactly where the best grapes are growing. In 2021, he selected when he wanted them picked too, cool fermenting and adding a touch of citrusy Pinot Grigio to the blend. This is the sort of wine you should never be short of, ready chilled in the fridge. Exuberant with bright melon fruit – serve solo or with a spicy noodle dish.

Irvine Spring Hill Eden Valley Pinot Gris

Irvine's Spring Hill range is always good value – this aromatic Pinot Gris from the Eden Valley a perfect example – and it boasts many high scores up to 95pts. i>"It’s delightfully fruited and elegantly expressed on the nose, presenting Gala apple, Asian pear, fig, and lemon peel aromas. The palate is equally appealing with juicy fruit intensity, fleshy texture, and bright acidity, finishing lingering and vibrant. 93pts". (Sam Kim, Wine Orbit). Dave Brookes in The Halliday Wine Companion likes its: "… aromas of crunchy pear, grapefruit and citrus fruits, hints of white flowers, green apple, stone, almond paste, distant dried herbs and fennel tops. Just a touch of texture on the palate with a sprinkling of crushed herbs and a crisp, savoury endpoint. 91pts. Great Value." Dave Brookes

Zonte's Footstep Shades of Gris Adelaide Hills Pinot Grigio

A favourite Grigio (though Gris by name) from the dynamic Zonte's Footstep team on great form with this bright Adelaide Hills treasure. A frequent Gold and high score winner. Reviewing a previous vintage, Ken Gargett WinePilot commented: "Always great fun to review the Zonte’s Footstep wines – cracking wines, brilliant value and some weird and wacky labels… It does hover between the two styles – Gris and Grigio – which is, I guess, the point. 92pts" Sam Kim Wine Orbit has called it "Fresh and elegant… finishing crip-dry and lingering. 92pts" An assessment certainly apt for this vintage too.

Main Divide Pinot Gris

A star-bright lemon hue with a hint of pink reflects the ripeness of the fruit. The wine is bursting with aromas and flavours of ripe pear, quince, guava, cinnamon and ginger. It expands on the palate to become mouth-filling and unctuous but its richness is balanced by a refreshing and zesty core of minerality.
