Mystery Pyrenees Cabernet Sauvignon Deal No. 38
Bright and shiny highlighting purple hues. Dark dense sweet concentrated aromas, with typical varietal Cabernet Sauvignon characters like cedar pencil shavings, freshly cut grass and an abundance of fresh blue fruits, also beautiful aromas of violets. Attractive savoury dried herbs notes are also evident. The palate is thick, juicy and luscious. This wine has finesse and elegance. On the mid- palate the wine expands displaying floral blackcurrant notes and rich dark chocolate flavours There are some lovely savoury chewy tannins and all very well integrated with the French oak. The after palate is long and dry with a hint of mocha which lingers for some time. A sensational wine, and as always the Dalwhinnie Cabernets age beautifully.
Whistler Shiver Barossa Valley Shiraz
Bursting with blackcurrant and blueberries, this wine shows the typical characters found in the Western side of the Barossa- chocolate/mocha and black pepper, but with a surprising freshness to the wine. Frankincense and blackberries jump out of the glass, along with a slight leafiness, which comes from the whole bunch component in the wine. Soft and juicy on the palate, but with a backbone of tannin from the whole bunches that draws the wine across the palate giving it length and precision.
Luis Alegre Rioja Crianza
Pure Tempranillo Rioja Crianza with silky, bright berry fruits and lightly toasty oak notes, making a perfect match for tapas dishes, a rice pilaf or grilled meats. Rioja’s Luis Alegre bodega was founded in 1968, just west of the village of Laguardia. It now boasts 52 hectares of vineyards in some prime spots of Rioja Alavesa, many of those ancient bush vines. Planted largely on limestone soils on sites protected from the cold northerly winds by the Cantabrian mountains, the vines produce ripe, intensely flavoured grapes with great freshness. They also pride themselves on promoting biodiversity and sustainability, as you may guess when looking at the wine’s label. This is their fine Crianza from vines over 50 years old. All Tempranillo, the wine was aged for 14 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels.
