From the Barossa Valley, indulge in Hesketh’s 2018 Ebenezer, a 92pt Shiraz of “considerable dimensions” (Halliday) and Schild Estate’s lavish 2018 Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre, made with fruit from Survivor vines (over 75 years old) and Centarian vines (over 100 years old)! More sumptuous Shiraz can be found in the Tornielli family’s 2015 Langhorne Creek ‘Duality’, layered with dark fruit and rich chocolate – and shining with Gold and Double Gold. Head to the beautiful Clare Valley for Mitchell Estate’s lovely 2014 Sevenhill Cabernet. Rated 93pts by Halliday, it’s “medium-bodied, with savoury characters intertwined with blackcurrant fruit and fine-grained tannins” and drinking sublimely now. Then, delight in two McLaren Vale stars which show the incredible quality and versatility this brilliant region presents.
