The Angullong vineyards are located on the southern lower slopes of the Orange region at the foothills of Mount Canobolas, an ancient volcano. Angullong’s topography is best described as dramatic. The country ranges from undulating to steep hills with spectacular limestone escarpments that radically descend to the fast flowing Belubula River. Barbera is an Italian variety that has been grown in Australia in small qualities since the 1960s. Angullong ‘Fossil Hill’ Barbera is a succulent, medium bodied, savoury wine with abundant cherry, raspberry and herb flavours, complemented by textural and balanced tannins. The variety is eminently suited to cooler regions and should mature well in the bottle over the next five or six years. Enjoy it with barbecued lamb.

Hentley Farm was established in 1997 by Keith and Alison Hentschke, who had a single vision to craft exceptional single estate wines from the Barossa Valley. Using an old soil map from the 1950’s to strategically locate the best parcels of land, they discovered a mixed farming property set among the rolling hills on the banks of Greenock Creek in Barossa’s west, with remarkable diversity of soil types, and varying aspects and altitudes. In 2004, the estate was extended with the purchase of a neighbouring vineyard which shared the treasured natural amphitheatre of rolling hills that surround Hentley Farm and resultant diversity of site. This single estate of 150 acres is Hentley Farm. Beyond the single vineyard estates, Hentley Farm produce a portfolio of modern wines sourced from select vineyards across the Barossa including a range of wines under the Villain & Vixen label. Made by one of the best producers in the Clare Valley to highlight the best characters of the region. Lifted aromas of black olive and spicy plums lead into a stylish and seemless palate.

Bernoota was the original name of the Lake Breeze homestead and now the Bernoota Shiraz Cabernet is rightfully considered to be one of Australia's favourite Shiraz Cabernet blends. And they don't come much better than Bernoota for the price! Not only is it rich and luscious, filled with blackcurrant, spice and pepper, it has a touch of dark chocolate on the finish. The 2009 is a 60% Shiraz and 40% Cabernet blend and spends 20 months in a mixture of French and American Oak that will see the wine not only be enjoyable now, but develop beautifully in the bottle for a further 8 to 10 years.

The fruit was hand-picked in early April, the whole bunch pressed and allowed to briefly settle. This removes the heavy solids from the juice, whilst retaining many of the lighter solids that are a wonderful source of nutrient for the yeast. A small portion of the wine was fermented in large old oak vessels to add some further complexity to the wine. All of the juice was fermented by our natural wild yeasts and then racked off its lees at the end of fermentation. The wine was prepared for bottling without any further manipulation, other than filtration to retain the pristine character of our delicate Riesling. The nose of this wine shows lovely delicate floral aromatics that are typical of all Delatite Rieslings whilst the palate has layers of lemon rind and lemon blossom with fine talcy structure and a fresh acid finish. This wine can be drunk in its youth, but like all great Rieslings, it will age easily for ten years. Should be wonderful for up to twenty years, developing fabulous toasty honey characters, that Riesling is famous for.
