Pinot Noir

Laurent Ponsot Cuvée de l'Aulne

Cuvée de lAulne Gevrey-Chambertin A blend of grapes purchased from seven or eight growers, across 10 to 12 different communal parcels smattered throughout the village. Again, this is the approach that Ponsot advocates in order to glean the essence of the regional terroir, in this case that of a single lauded village. Red and dark fruit essences mesh with the smoked meat parlayed by Gevreys heavier, ferrous limestone. A richer wine in the context of Burgundy, without the edges and creases that need too much smoothing with time in the cellar. Accessible across the earlier to mid-term.

Laurent Ponsot Cuvée des Peupliers

Cuvée des Peupliers Bourgogne Rouge Drawn from a parcel directly below the Route Nationale in Chambolle, abutting the Morey border. Ponsot has been farming this site since 2002 and it is, if you will, a launching pad into Chambolles evanescent glories of crunchy red fruit, silken tannins and chiffon-like detail. A waft of spice and sous-bois accents top it all off. A mere quarter of the cuvée was raised in oak facilitating imminent accessibility and enjoyment, high on the drinkability spectrum.

Domaine Jerome Galeyrand Vieilles Vignes

Made with fruit grown on 60+ year old vines, the Côte de Nuits Villages Vieilles Vignes is a light, bright Pinot with aromas of light spice, pot pourri and red berries. Grapes are grown in limestone soil using biodynamic viticulture. The wine is 25-30% whole bunch, fermented with indigenous yeast with minimal added sulphur. As with all Galeyrand wines, this example is certified organic. It is aged in oak barrels, a maximum of 20% new.

Domaine Henri Magnien Champerrier

Domaine Henri Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier A relatively new cuvée, 2013 the first vintage of this wine. Situated close to Chambertin, Clos de Beze and Mazis-Chambertin, this vineyard is planted to old vines and Henri Magnien makes a mere 1200 bottles made. Champerrier has unusually rocky soils for Gevrey-Chambertin and this is evident in the wine with its minerality and elegance in with all that usual tannic structure. Domaine Henri Magnien Vieilles Vignes

Domaine Henri Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes The Vieilles Vignes, or old vines, are from those mich sought-after 70 to 100-year-old vines from which the Massal Selection cuttings, named Pinot Magnien, are taken. Expect a juicy, generous Gevrey-Chambertin Villages rogue showing ripe red fruit, great balance, a medium-body and a lengthy finish. All much like the younger Villages equivalent bottling. However, youll find more depth, complexity and concentration here as expected from an old vines selection. Laurent Ponsot Grand Cru Cuvée du Chêne

This Chambertin is captivating from the get-go, showcasing the full range of fruit: blackberry, and pomegranate, accented by notes of smoke and spice. The palate is tautly muscular and refined with big-bodied flavours, mineral depth and quite a firm finish.

Domaine Faiveley La Combe D'Orveau 1er Cru

Fabien Coche, Meursault Rouge

Moss Wood Pinot Noir

Moss Wood are not know for their Pinot Noir, however this is a fine a unique expression of region and variety. A fruit bomb of rich and integrated flavours of cherry, spice, charry oak and silky finesse on the finish. The flavours pop and linger in the mouth long after the wine has left it.
