From the Tiergarden lieu-dit in Kaysersberg, the 2023 Domaine Eckle Chasselas Vieilles Vignes AOC Alsace showcases the delicate character and distinctive minerality of this historic Alsace grape variety. The old vines grow on magmatic gneiss soils, contributing freshness, finesse and a subtle flinty character. Pale yellow with green highlights, the nose is expressive and floral, revealing aromas of hawthorn and citrus with an elegant mineral lift. Awarded 1 Star by the Guide Hachette des Vins, the 2021 Domaine Eckle Pinot Blanc (Klevner) AOC Alsace is a beautifully balanced expression of this classic Alsace variety. The Guide Hachette describes the wine as elegant and structured, with floral aromas, subtle toasted almond and lively acidity. Pale gold and brilliant in colour, the nose is fresh, rich and expressive, revealing delicate aromas of white flowers and orchard fruits including crisp apple and peach. This Chardonnay reflects the elegant landscape surrounding our Hawke’s Bay vineyards as well as the complexity of the wild fermentation method. Stone fruit and citrus aromas are enhanced by baking spice and brioche from regular battonage in fine French oak barriques. Concentrated, taut and mineral with a silken texture. Honeysuckle blossoms and vanilla with toasted hazelnuts and a hint of butter. This wine has well balanced acidity which leaves the palate refreshed.
