John likes his wines to express big personality and juicy fruit and value for money – he’s certainly achieved that here! Ripe and round blackberries conspire with flavours of plum and cinnamon spice. On the palate, rich red berries and brewed coffee make for a very appealing wine.

Riverscape Estate Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvignon

This classy, smooth as silk Cabernet hails from the famous soils of Langhorne Creek. Hurry to reserve your share of this tiny volume red. Dark crimson in the glass, with enticing aromas of blackberry, ripe red cherry, red capsicum and fresh herbs. Hints of dark chocolate sit on the back palate and run to a long, smooth, complex finish. No need to cellar (though you can, for another 3 years or so if you like). It's drinking beautifully now.

It takes either a madman or a genius to come up with brilliant innovations like this Cabernet Shiraz Nero d'Avola blend, but the team behind BedLam & OrdEr and not afraid of attempting something new. Australian winemakers have been doing it for years – Cabernet Shiraz being the perfect example of a classic Australian style known the world over. Here, the BedLam & OrdEr winemakers have given this classic style a refresh with the addition of Italian favourite, Nero d'Avola. It improves the blend with a tease of tannin, more dark fruits like plum and black cherry, plus a soft liquorice element. There's a hint of mint you might catch, a much-loved characteristic of Fleurieu Cabernet Shiraz blends. Fruit forward and made to drink now.
