Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils Cotes Du Rhone

Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils is located in the village of Châteauneuf du Pape, has built a solid reputation over the years as producing rich, ripe red wines, so it's interesting to see that Thierry Usseglio and his son, Gregory, are experimenting with the use of whole bunches and an entirely new wine style that combines a large proportion of white grapes and use of amphorae. 90% Grenache planted 1904, 1940s, 1977 and 2001, 15% Mourvèdre planted early 1980s and 5% Cinsault from sandy, stony soil at Courthézon, Sorgues, destemmed, concrete vat-fermented 25 days, raised 5-6 months, unfined and filtered. Less than 300 cases made each year. This wine is so limited that the wine is usually sold out before it can be reviewed.

Paringa Estate Peninsula Shiraz

Paringa Estate Peninsula Shiraz Mornington Peninsula The Paringa wines in the Peninsula range are an haut Mornington Peninsulathe emphasis being on the liveliness of the fruit. 'The quality of these wines are often equal to many other vineyards best'- James Halliday This is a classic cool-climate Shiraz. The fruit is sourced from three sites around the Peninsula which has the spice and black pepper characters, that are characteristic of this wine. The wine has a dollop of Viognier (5% approx.) which is co-fermented with the Shiraz. It is then aged for close to a year in seasoned French oak barriques. Shop Paringa

Fletcher The Minion Nebbiolo

The focus here for this wine by Fletcher is on what Nebbiolo as a variety can do in Australian terroir. The philosophy behind these wines is to de-construct tradition and start afresh. Driven with obsession and going against the grain, Ann from Fletcher had the foresight to plant small acreage to mixed clones of Nebbiolo in 1998, which officially makes this some of the oldest Nebbiolo in Australia. Meticulously manicured, this vineyard, after the green harvest, is lucky if it produces 2 tonnes to the acre, and the fruit it produces is floral, rich and backed by Nebbiolo's superior tannins.

Oliver's Taranga Shiraz

Made by Corrina Wright, a sixth generation member of the Oliver family, this is McLaren Vale Shiraz to the extreme. There's bold chocolate and blackberry flavours, a hint of pepper and smokey overtones. The alcohol sits at the higher end of the spectrum and there's plenty of vanilla oak, but the fruit intensity pulls it all together to produce a superbly balanced wine.

Stonier Pinot Noir

Stonier produces one of the most consistent Pinots from the Mornington Peninsula. Attractive plum and cherry flavours are enhanced by some gamey undertones and smoky oak influence. Perfect with duck.

St Hugo GSM

St Hugo GSM is aromatic and bright, yet exudes the style and pedigree which are hallmarks of the St Hugo label. This Grenache Shiraz Mataro blend shows lifted fruit aromas of Turkish delight and briary complexity. The palate is plush, full and complex. Ripe fruit flavours are complemented by silky tannins and subtle oak.
