Flor de San Martín Garnacha Blanca
Spain’s Navarra is full of surprises, producing styles from traditional and oaky to the most modern and fresh. Flor de San Martín is certainly in the latter camp, a brilliantly zippy fresh white made only from grapes grown in high altitude vineyards in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Little rain and these dizzy heights mean lovely intensity of crisp fruit and lifted herbal aromas – flavours that are unique to the region. This white will really get the taste buds tingling! It’s from winemaker Gonzalo Zelayeta, who works his magic at the modern San Martín de Unx winery, founded back in 1914. From hand-picked (impossible with machines) grapes and cool fermented, this is a refreshing glassful. Tops with seafood, salads and lighter dishes.
Hungerford Hill Tumbarumba Chardonnay
Hungerford Hill is a premium Hunter Valley winery, but they have a long history of making prestige wines from NSW's cool Tumbarumba region. This one shows the region's cool, crisp, citrus and nectarine rich style off to perfection. So much so that it won Gold AND the Trophy at the Canberra Wine Show! Now that's impressive!
Zonte's Footstep Lady Marmalade Vermentino
Zonte's call this a "sexy, sassy, somewhat racy Vermentino that exudes so much character it just keeps you coming back for more..." Expect lovely green apple, starfruit, fresh lime and zesty grapefruit all wrapped up in a crisp zingy finish. This is delicious!
Visionario ()
Venezie in northern Italy boasts an Alpine climate that makes it perfect for crisp, aromatic whites like this. Pinot Grigio is the preferred grape here, but this ‘visionary’ white is an inspired blend, courtesy of Alessandro Gallici. Born in Friuli, he knows the vineyards here like the back of his hand. In Visionario Alessandro combines local Friulano with other grapes such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer, to create a wonderfully aromatic white that’s a massive customer favourite. It’s terrific on its own and has natural affinity with fish dishes such as trout with almonds, or with creamy pasta.
