You may well have tasted wines made from Tuscany's flagship red grape, Sangiovese, but La Scelta di Sofia is something totally unique. Very hard to find. It's a rare white wine made from the red Sangiovese grape – and has already notched up a huge 96pt score. Sofia Barbanera is an exceptional, pioneering winemaker at her family’s beautiful Tuscan estate, which has been handcrafting excellent wines for over 80 years. (Her Saracosa wines are massively popular among our customers.) Surrounded by some of the region’s most famous cellars, Sofia works hard to impress. Knowing her fans' love for Sangiovese, Sofia took it for a spin, with fantastic results. Her creation - a dazzlingly fresh white! Personally selecting the vineyard plots for this wine, she gave the grapes the gentlest pressing to ensure a light wine with quince and citrus aromas. Wonderfully, it still retains the tart cherry hallmarks of Sangiovese. Deliciously different and ideal with risotto, seafood and chicken.

Irvine's Spring Hill range is always good value – this aromatic Pinot Gris from the Eden Valley a perfect example – and it boasts many high scores up to 95pts. i>"It’s delightfully fruited and elegantly expressed on the nose, presenting Gala apple, Asian pear, fig, and lemon peel aromas. Dave Brookes in The Halliday Wine Companion likes its: "… aromas of crunchy pear, grapefruit and citrus fruits, hints of white flowers, green apple, stone, almond paste, distant dried herbs and fennel tops. A favourite Grigio (though Gris by name) from the dynamic Zonte's Footstep team on great form with this bright Adelaide Hills treasure. A frequent Gold and high score winner. Reviewing a previous vintage, Ken Gargett WinePilot commented: "Always great fun to review the Zonte’s Footstep wines – cracking wines, brilliant value and some weird and wacky labels… It does hover between the two styles – Gris and Grigio – which is, I guess, the point. 92pts" Sam Kim Wine Orbit has called it "Fresh and elegant… finishing crip-dry and lingering. 92pts" An assessment certainly apt for this vintage too.

The home of Semillon in Australia is unquestionably the Hunter Valley and Briar Ridge produce a Semillon that has lovely pale straw hues with crisp lemon on the nose and brilliant lime zest on the palate.

The Winemaking: Once harvested the fruit was crushed and pressed; the juice was cold settled and racked to ferment. The ferment was carried out with selected yeast and stopped with some residual sugar. Post fermentation the wine was stabilised, clarified and bottled. Poured into a wine glass, this white wine displays an exceptionally pale straw appearance which is accompanied by vibrant green hues. A swirl of the glass exhibits rich citrus and floral aromas with a touch of passionfruit. Spicy undertones complete the fruity nose and pave the way for a seamless palate which opens with pear and grapefruit flavours. Sherbet characters follow and the wine ends in a long finish, marked by citrus acidity. Enjoy this wine within 2 to 3 years from vintage to make the most of its youthful flavours. Alternately, it can be cellared for up to 15 years for more complex and toasty characters.

Showcasing a brilliant appearance with a pale straw colour and youthful green rim, this Semillon Sauvignon Blanc exudes pungent aromas of quince, lemon, gooseberry and herbaceous snow peas. These intense aromas are followed by a pure palate offering delicious citrus fruit characters that are balanced by a touch of tropical passion fruit. Complex flinty undertones are complemented by subtle French oak, leading to a long and persistent finish marked by grapefruit acidity. A lively wine to be consumed now, the drink will develop great complexity over the next 5 years.

The grapes for this lipsmacking wine are grown in Orange, 950 metres above sea level. This crisp, cold, but sunny climate is the perfect place to grow Riesling. Low temperatures retain varietal vibrancy and minerality while the sunshine drives the production of rich tropical fruit, resulting in a wine of immense flavour and character.

The grapes are grown at an elevation of greater than 900 metres on the slopes of Mount Canobolas in Orange. Peter Logan’s Sauvignon is a very pale golden colour, and he coaxed vibrant aromas of guava, meyer lemon, sage and white flowers, backed up by a gently textured palate with generous lashings of ripe passionfruit, lime and pink grapefruit.
