With the Southern Ocean coastline just minutes from Gemtree's vineyards, the maritime influence runs deep at this winery. Couple this with the certified organic vineyards that are tended by hand and you have a perfect recipe for a bold and full-bodied Shiraz; the Dragon's Blood McLaren Vale Shiraz. Choosing sites that offer the greatest varietal expression, concentration and finesse, the wine then saw maturation in French oak of sizes ranging from barriques (225L) to puncheons (500L) for 12 months. The result is a foreboding Shiraz that displays notes of blueberry, blackcurrant, aniseed and balancing earthen touch. Ideal served on its own to fully appreciate the rich and complex flavours but also at home when paired with French cutlets and slow cooked duck.

The Exception wines are driven by one-off parcels of exceptional fruit. These wines are strictly limited edition and never-to-be repeated.Deep red purple. Mulberry, plum, dark cherry, earth, pepper and wood smoke. Ripe and full-bodied, in a deluxe style, with concentrated red and black fruit, layered tannins adding power and complexity, charry chocolatey oak and a long, toasty finish.

Merlot is the perfect varietal for those who like their red wines on the smooth side. Soft, velvety and plush with fruit characters of plum, blueberry and blackcurrant, Hardy's have produced a wonderful easy drinking red wine with the added bonus of being bottled in a larger 1L bottle adding great value.

Hardys have produced an easy drinking Cabernet, with attractive soft berry flavours which flow easily across the palate and gentle tannins on the finish. Bottled in the larger format 1L bottles, there's now more to go around!

Grape variety - 100% Shiraz. Oak maturation - Portions of old and new French oak for 15 months. Colour - Medium-deep red with purple hue. Aroma - The wine opens with lifted spice and pepper with a dusty floral fragrance. There are ripe fruit characters of plum and mulberry with savoury oak. A wine that showcases fragrances of ripe raspberries and sweet juicy red fruits. A particularly long ripening season allowed winemakers to pick grapes at optimum maturity and resulted in a wine showcasing intense ruby colour, vibrant ripe fruit flavours, a rich full palate and soft fine tannins.

A charming red of full-flavour and great finesse. Bright ruby colour with an attractive delicately spiced red fruit perfume. In the glass this is silky, succulent, harmonious and very moreish. Roast duck anyone?

Deep rich in colour with sweet ripe fruit and hints of oak on the nose. The palate has all the depth and structure of a premium Barossa Shiraz with good concentration of flavour and overall balance. The word penumbra means a partial shadow, such as an eclipse, between regions of complete light and shadow. The notion of light and shade forming interesting patterns and effects can be clearly likened to the craft of winemaking, where the many nuances involved in making a fine wine are often not easily defined as black and white, but in skilfully utilising the grey areas. The Glaetzer family makes unique and elegant wines that are regarded as classics and are unmistakably from the Barossa Valley. This wine from vines 35-70 years old exhibits great intensity of colour and flavour with a nose of dark fruits, chocolate and spice. Very soft and elegant on the palate, typical of the great Shiraz wines of the Barossa. While drinking beautifully now, this wine will reward with medium term cellaring. With a family history in the Barossa Valley dating back to 1888, Glaetzer Wines was established by Colin Glaetzer after 30 years of winemaking experience. Son Ben worked in the Hunter Valley and as a Flying Winemaker in many of the worlds wine regions before returning to Glaetzer Wines and assuming the winemaking role. The wines are made with great skill and abundant personality.
